A few weeks ago, I posted pics of the Marvel Universe 2011 Wave 2 (or Wave 13) Gladiator and Cable. As promised, here are pics of Cyclops and Apocalypse, the other figures from that wave, minus First Appearance Wolverine.
Cyclops
I’ve been waiting for this body buck since the beginning of the MU line, and I am looking forward to it’s future reuse. This body includes swivel thighs (conveniently hidden by Cyke’s leg straps), and the very useful rocker ankles. The only articulation point missing for me are the hinged wrists, but other than that I’m really happy with Cyke’s articulation.
We finally get a nice figure of this Jim Lee Cyke costume – I thought the Toybiz attempt with the 6-inch X-men Classics line was a little too slim. Hopefully we’ll get the same in Hasbro’s Marvel Legends reboot!
Some size comparisons:
This figure is definitely one of my favorites in the MU line, and I’m sure Hasbro’ll get a lot of reuse out of this new body.
Apocalypse
Honestly, I’m not really familiar with this version of Apocalypse’s costume, but I still think the figure looks great.
Ok, that spot in Apocalypse’s butt is not really flattering, we could’ve done without that particular paint detail, I think!
Also for some reason, I feel that his eye paint is a little soft on the edges, he probably just needs some sort of outline to bring those eyes out – but that’s just me being nitpicky.
Here’s some size comparisons to give you an idea of how big he is:
As with most chunky and muscular figures, there are some restricted range of movement in some parts. In addition to that, there are tubes that attach from his shoulder pads to his forearms (they don’t come off) that restrict Apocalypse’s arm movement, particularly the poses where he raises his arms up. I still had fun pitting some MU X-men against him though.
I would have preferred a classic-costumed Apocalypse, but I still dig this version of this X-men baddie. I’m a sucker for big villains, and every time there’s a new one with upgraded articulation in MU, I really can’t pass it up.
I managed to snag these figures from my local Target. I probably got lucky as I haven’t really seen any of them since. The only ones I keep running into are First Appearance Wolvie, which I haven’t picked up yet, and Gladiator. I’m hoping they’ll be more widespread soon so more people can get ’em.
That’s it for now, thanks for looking, and I hope you enjoyed the pics!
Wow, I just want to say that this photography is absolutely phenomenal.
And that single circle on his pants has to be a mistake – right? Hasbro didn’t really paint all of them like that, did they?
Love that Messiah War Apocalypse. Had to order one on Amazon since I couldn’t find one at Target or any of the ToysRus’ that I went to. May have to get another one just to keep in the box.
ive just missed both of these guys twice now, driving me nuts, because they look amazing!
Thanks jestergoblin! I haven’t really seen other Apocalypse butts to see if the paint apps are the same as mine, it looks intentional so it might be!
My local Target and Walmart have been constantly restocking these, Cyke, Cable and Apoc usually disappear within the day though. I’m sure they’ll be widespread soon, aside from the Thanos wave, most MU figs become easier to find in my area a couple of weeks later.
Excellent pics and review as usual, Sandman. I’m glad that Hasbro finally developed a standard swivel thighed buck. Now, let’s hope they keep using it! Figures like Constrictor and Yellowjacket sure would have benefited from it.
En Sabah Nur’s stain is easy enough to explain: He’s soiled himself just thinking about taking over the world!
why does this pic look like Apocalypse soiled himself?
