After some big toy announcements this week, I finally got around to opening the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie figures that I showed carded earlier.
Overall, the figures are well-done for this scale. I understand including accessories to appeal to mass market, however some don’t make sense. For instance, while Logan comes with two sets of hands, one with claws and one without, both sets of Wolverine’s hands have claws. The peg sizes on the interchangeable hands are different on the two figures, so if you want a de-clawed Wolverine, you won’t get that without a little work.
Sabretooth’s accessories – a chain with a hook and some kind of mini-scythe – are neat, but with both hands in a clawing shape, there’s really no way for him to hold them. Come to think of it, all the Sabretooth figures in this line are suffering some sort of healing factor rictus in their hands.
Movie Deadpool has comic fans up in arms over the big redesign in his look and backstory. He’s a bit evocative of Mortal Kombat’s Baraka. I’ll reserve judgment until I see the movie, but the figure itself is well executed. There’s quite a bit of detail in his head that a paint wash would have brought out.
I’ll never understand why Hasbro doesn’t use universal joints/pegs for their 3.75-inch action figures in the same series. Nevermind the fact that it would be even better if all of their 3.75-inch figure used universal joints.
