Two original pieces of Masters of the Universe art are up for auction from Mattel to benefit the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation (CAAF). “Battle Armor He-man with Battle Cat” and “Battle Bones” were painted by William George in 1984 and were used as packaging art for the toys. Both were featured in the limited edition MOTU Art Book that was sold to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation at San Diego Comic-Con this year, with the Battle Cat painting on the cover.
These paintings are two of over seventy pieces of art up for auction, which also includes items from the Barbie and Hot Wheels archives and original pieces by Mattel employees.
You may see these items in person at the Dream Halloween Art Show Preview Night on Thursday this week and register silent bids. This is a free event open to the general public. Live bidding will take place on Saturday at Dream Halloween Los Angeles – tickets for this event are $300 for adults and $250 for kids. You may also bid by phone, starting at around 5:30PM on Saturday, but have to register in advance by calling 310-258-0850 before end of business on Friday.
The minimum bid for either of the two MOTU pieces is $1,000. Good luck on your bidding!
