I keep sliding down that slippery slope of high end collectibles. I knew after I got the Hot Toys DX MMS Joker that I’d end up getting more from The Dark Knight line. I already have a DX MMS Batman on pre-order, but had to go back to pick up a Harvey Dent / Two-Face. As great as these figures are, I’ve still got some sticker shock, since I’m used to buying figures in the $10 – $15 range – but luckily I found some good deals on the Hot Toys MMS Two-Face on eBay. After opening him up, I’d have been just as happy paying retail.
As I’ve come to learn, opening each figure from Hot Toys is part of the joy, since the packaging is always creative and interesting. To play on the character’s dual nature, the outer slip cover features two sides, one for Harvey Dent and the other for Two-Face. The Two-Face side has some great texture on the burnt areas of his evil side. The inner box cover features Two-Face’s coin, photos of the two halves of his face, and the list of the creative team. Inside the flap cover, the toy in its Two-Face getup, with extra parts in a plastic tray.
This figure comes with an additional unscathed Harvey Dent head and suit jacket. While I think the Aaron Eckhart likeness is pretty good, it works better depending on the angle from which it’s viewed. The expression is a serious one – and I think that Hot Toys missed an opportunity to play with the dual nature of the character by not giving him a different expression. I think a smug smirk might have done the trick.
I’m much more pleased with the Two-Face head. It’s got just the right amount of decayed flesh, festering sores, and glossy finish to make me want to stare and wretch at the same time. With the exposed eyeball, I was thinking just how I’d have been completely floored if the head sculpt incorporated PERS, the Hot Toys innovation that allows for eyeball movement.
Never skimping on highly detailed accessories, Hot Toys includes a revolver, two coins which have details so tiny I really can’t tell if they’re different, and an “I believe in Harvey Dent” pin (that isn’t actually a pin). The revolver has a hammer that can be positioned cocked for some extra menace, and the ammo barrel can spin and flip out as if you were loading it.
In summary, this figure was a steal for what I paid, but would be worth every penny if I had bought at retail price. Two-Face hasn’t replaced the Joker at the top of my list, but I’m still extremely glad to have him in my collection. We’ll have to see if Batman can triumph over the Joker, and if not him, then perhaps a battle-damaged Iron Man can.
Love the site guys and all you do, but the info you gave on Hot Toys TwoFace being on sale at Amazon via Hastings for $49.99 is wrong. There is no sale on TwoFace on Amazon or at Hastings, or if there was it was only a minute amount up. Can anyone verify they got one at this price?
must have sold out from Hastings. I was still mulling over picking him up, so I missed it. he’s back up to close to $100, which is what I normally see him for.
