The 2010 San Diego Comic-Con is one day away and we’re writing down the things we are looking forward to the most! If you’ve never been to Comic-Con, I have to say it is one of the craziest places to be if you’re a fan of comic books, movies, television and most important to us: TOYS!
In this “Super Bowl” of geekdom, we get a lot of first peeks at various companies’ future toy releases. Here’s what I’m looking forward to seeing!
Masters of the Universe Classics (Mattel)
We got a lot of good stuff from this line this year. Last year Battle Cat was the star of the Con for me, as was seeing Teela and Trapjaw. This year they are supposed to show the same amount of figures they showed last year and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us! I’m hoping to see Man-E-Faces, Panthor, Mantenna and maybe some vehicles!!

Marvel Universe (Hasbro)
It seems Hasbro is finally upping their game with this line, and their current releases like Juggernaut, Colossus and the A.I.M. Soldier have really gotten me excited. Seeing the Movie Spiderman SDCC Exclusive with hip swivels gives me hope that future releases will have this important articulation point included. Seriously, my A.I.M. Soldier can do more Spidey-like poses than the first Spidey they released. Also, seeing a 19-inch Galactus makes me wonder what other large scale figures they have in store for us. I wouldn’t mind seeing Nimrod, Stature, Celestials, heck I’d even welcome more Sentinels! The Iron Man 2 figures were so well done that sneak peeks at any of the Marvel Movie toy lines ( Captain America or Thor ) would be awesome as well!

Marvel Legends (Hasbro)
I haven’t given up on this line yet! Hasbro’s Iron Man 2 Walmart 6-inch exclusives were awesome and the Hand Ninja/Shield Agent 2-packs were a welcome addition to everyone’s ML collection, so I know this scale still has legs! Last year the Hasbro team was on hand in their booth to answer questions about this line and boy were they getting feedback from the fans! Some fans were actually very vocal and there were many arguments about character selection and decreased articulation!
Hasbro showed some Marvel Legends prototypes at SDCC last year, which led to a poll on which figures fans would like to be made. We now know that we’re getting Deadpool, Valkyrie, Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Hulk, and Warpath, now the question is when are we getting these figures! Also, are we getting more? They have hinted they have something in the works for the line – I know, we’ve heard that before… I’m crossing my fingers and toes that we see something good!

Green Lantern Classics – Rumored! (Mattel)
This year’s abundance of Green Lantern characters has been great and the recent rumor of a Green Lantern focused line has got me excited! I’m hoping Mattel takes advantage of the recent Blackest Night storyline and the upcoming GL movie. Bring on some Blackest Night figures, especially members of the other corps! I’m also hoping to see more of the JSA and Legion of Super Heroes in future waves of DCUC!

Players Select (NECA)
NECA’s Bioshock figures have floored me, and the points of articulation have greatly improved on some of their Players Select figures like Isaac from Dead Space, Ryu from Ninja Gaiden and Dante from Dante’s Inferno. I hope they continue this trend, as NECA produces some of the best sculpts around and their addition of poseability makes their figures must buys for any video game fan. I want my video game figs to be able to imitate their video game moves!

Metal Gear Solid and more (Square Enix)
Although I’m not too happy about their switch to larger figures in their Play Arts Kai line, I am excited to see them starting to make Metal Gear figures. I’m hoping they’ll show more Metal Gear goodness at the Con! I’ve also seen they have future releases for Bleach, which makes me wish they would pick up the license for Naruto as well. I need some poseable Naruto figures stat (Mattel’s attempt doesn’t count)!
>> We don’t have a lot of coverage for Square Enix right now, but that will change after Comic-Con!
There you have it, the toy lines that I’m looking forward to seeing at Comic-Con. I have to mention too that I’m curious to see what Jazwares have in store for their Sonic line, and although they are way above my price range, seeing Hot Toys and Sideshow stuff in person is always a welcome thing for me. Also looking forward to the crazy costumes and just hanging out with my fellow toy geeks!
One thing I’m not looking forward to: the long lines to everything, and I sure hope Mattel organizes their booth this year, the past two years have been too crazy.
To those going to San Diego this year, have fun! And to those who are not able to go, we’ll try to bring Comic-Con to you with our coverage! Stay tuned!
