Jakks’ TNA Deluxe Impact Series 1 is finally hitting the shelves in my neck of the woods! I found them at Toys R Us and Kmart while making the rounds this weekend and I picked up Sting to see how they compare to the old TNA WWE Deluxe Aggression line.
As you can see in the pics above, Jakks has scaled way back on the packaging which is actually okay with me. It’s a lot less waste to deal with. The price on the TNA DI are also lower than the WWE DA figures, TRU and Kmart had them for $9.99.
The body style and points of articulation are exactly the same as the Deluxe Aggression figures, Sting here has the same body that was used for the WWE DA Undertaker. I do love the hip articulation on these figures. The hip balls have a huge range of motion and are sculpted to look much more natural than most hip balls usually do. I really wish the hips on Marvel Legends were done this way. One negative about this particular figure’s articulation is that the knees and especially the ankle joints are much looser than the same joints on the few DA figures I’ve had, making him prone to falling in some poses. Hopefully this isn’t widespread throughout the line.
The paint apps are very tight, the details are all super sharp and there is absolutely no slop or bleed on this figure. Pretty impressive considering the amount of small detail in the scorpion design on his tights and kabuki face paint. A great improvement in the Deluxe Impact is that the flesh tone looks much more realistic than the funky tan the DA figures had.
Overall it’s a pretty solid first round for Jakks Deluxe Impact, at least as far as Sting goes. I’m interested to see what Jakks will be doing with this line as it continues and hope they will be making more improvements to make Deluxe Impact stand out from Deluxe Aggression.
