Yes, I still have WonderCon pics to post – one day I’ll win the lottery and this can become my full-time gig. For now, please accept my apologies that these pics of Green Lantern action figures weren’t posted a week ago. With the movie opening just over 2 months from now, WonderCon was one of the last big pop culture events available to promote the movie and associated merchandise. And Green Lantern had a very strong presence, being featured prominently at both the DC and Mattel booths.
I’ve included Mattel’s Green Lantern Classics here – while these fit in with DC Universe Classics, they were made possible by the Green Lantern movie. Mattel had a nice cube display of GLC wave 2. I hadn’t seen Stel up close yet, because I still was missing the Lantern “Pack-In” 3-pack. Their bigger GL display made me wish I had picked up some more Manhunters.
I did search the floor for booths with GLC wave 2 – there were two close by to each other that must have colluded on price. It appears that the 3-pack featuring B’dg, Dex-Star, and Despotellis is shortpacked in the case packouts – so if you’re looking to complete Stel, be sure to pick up this pack if and when you see it, or else face the possibility of being Giganta’d.
The DC booth had some higher end busts and statues. I am assuming these are from DC Direct. All very cool stuff – makes me wish I had the cash and space for stuff like this.
This is a mix of pictures from the DC and Mattel booths. As you can see, there’s a metric ton of GL movie products on the way – 3.75-inch, 6-inch, Action League, and Barbie, to name a few. I’m sure that Warner Bros, DC, and Mattel are planning for this to be a hit on the scale of Iron Man, and have planned the merchandise accordingly.
There’s collector-oriented product in there, but my preference would have been to have some of it compatible with DC Universe classics. The movie product draws its aesthetic from the movie, and looks to be in its own scale and style. I’d have loved to collect a Four Horsemen Ryan Reynolds GL, but I don’t think that’s in the cards.
