There was some buzz around the Hasbro booth that Marvel Universe would be slowing down at retail – of course this was all speculation from Marvel fans at San Diego Comic-Con, and not confirmed or denied by any Hasbro folks (they were scarce at Preview Night). It’s tough for me to judge how much new stuff they did have out, so let me know what you think.
There are only two new figures. Longshot and Rogue. We have seen everything else before. It doesn´t bode well.
The Inhumans haven’t really been shown(aside from unpainted prototypes for Medusa and Karnak). There’s also a newly sculpted Rhino behind Hercules that looks pretty awesome.
It seems like there’s a backlog of stuff that we’ve known was coming but hasn’t hit stores. Maybe that’s why there’s less new stuff. Unfortunately, it seems like there’s a lot more two-packs with one new and one old figure, which is a drag.
Apparently they added Mysterio and Elektra, too.
Can someone explain the deal on the small cyclops figure in the first small pic above? I’m a toy newbie, but that doesn’t seem to fit in with the look of any of the other characters. Any help is appreciated.
That’s a pack-in figure of one of the X-Babies, mini versions of the X-Men created by Longshot’s archnemesis Mojo.
And yeah, I think the main problem is they showed pretty much everything last year, plus there’s been a delay of product the first half of the year(I guess to focus on the Avengers line and Legends relaunch). But we’ve basically got four new waves hitting over the next few months.
Has the orange Foom been cancelled, though? They haven’t said anything about him since last year, but I don’t think I’ve heard them say he’s not coming either.
Good question about the orange Foom. I don’t know. I also don’t know whether the giant-sized Ultimo in the Marvel diorama thingy is an upcoming figure or just a custom for SDCC. I hope both are forthcoming, and that Ultimo comes with somebody new, rather than with yet another Iron Man.
According to the panel, the orange Fin Fang Foom has been delayed indefinitely because they didn’t want to release too much big stuff at once. Not much other news, really.
