A short while ago frequent commenter wally2974 sent me an email asking me about how I made my custom Legion of Doom / classic Bizarro. Of course, I gladly take credit for it even though Ibentmyman-thing did all the hard work (he sculpted the Bizarro head).
It was very flattering that wally was inspired by the custom enough to want to make one himself, so I asked him if he’d send me pictures when he was done. Now I am tinged with jealousy, since his version came out much cleaner than mine. It doesn’t help that he also has one of those very rare light blue colored Superman figures that never made it to shelves. Curse you, wally! 😉
I did complete the Bizarro Custom and I think it came out great! I think it’s very close, in comparison, to the Bizarro custom you completed for the article….even down to the hunched over slump. He’s one of my favorite figures, in my collection, now!
Benty’s painting hand is incredible. I was amazed when the head showed up in the mail. The eyes and pupils are painted so perfectly. There were a few small lines that he didn’t paint on, that were on your Bizarro head. I added the two lines on his forehead (above the outsides of his eyes), the lines under his eyelids, and the lines on his nose. I noticed he painted thick eyebrows on this head, just like in the cartoon, but yet he didn’t paint any on yours.
I attached a few pictures of him alone and with both DCU Superman & DCU lighter blue “Super Powers” Superman (from an Ebay seller from China). It does slightly bother me that he’s a bit taller than both Superman figures because he’s a Public Enemies buck. They do look great in front of the Action Figure Display backgrounds, and it’s a shame they don’t sell them anymore.
I have included a few other pics, also. I “corrected” a Battle Damaged Knights End Batman from the 2 pack. I used “Oops!” paint remover to erase the tear in his costume and carefully repainted the bat symbol. With the bright yellow belt, he’s pretty close to the “Super Powers” version of DCU Batman. I took a few pics of him with “Super Powers” Superman.
I also took a few pics of a really quick diorama of a maskless Batman relaxing in the batcave after a long night of crimefighting. The background is just crumpled up brown craft paper, to resemble the cave walls. I bought the figure off of Ebay. He has a Punisher head and a soft cape made out of some like of latex rubber material. I used the Star Trek Enterprise computer as the Batcomputer I’ve seen used before. I found the small ceramic mug and silver tea set/tray on a miniature doll furniture site. If I had a loose DC Direct Hush Alfred, I’d have had him holding the silver tray, standing behind his Master Bruce.
The lack of new DC Universe figures has really drawn me to try my hand at some minor custom figures. I’m very new to customizing and you guys have been VERY helpful. Between you, Benty, and Buzzy Fret, I have had some great customizer minds to pick at for guidance and ideas. Thank you so much for your help and encouragement.
I think my next custom is going to be a Green Lantern Batman using a combo of a black wave 10 Batman and the MOTU vs. DC Green Lantern.
Thanks for the pics and the write-up, wally! Be sure to send us some pics when you’re done with your GL Bats!
Awesome!! Thanks Ron. when I went to do my regular check of your website, I was shocked to see my pictures on your front page. You made my week with such a great write up! I’ll definitely send you pics of my Green Lantern Batman when I get it finished.
Who knew that winning your SDCC Glee giveaway, a few years ago, that I’d have write-up on here someday.
2 more weeks til NYCC & I can’t wait to get there…again. So, this just puts the icing on the cake for me!
