Mystique is one of the figures from Hasbro’s (Return of) Marvel Legends that I’ve been looking forward to most. I had made a custom of this version of Raven Darkholme way back when Buffy figures had gotten super-articulated, and while I was liked the custom ok I hoped it would eventually be eclipsed. And it has been – by now the Black Widow / female SHIELD agent is well known territory, and it’s utilized well here. The classic Mystique by Toy Biz also suffers in comparison.
As noted by some during SDCC, the Madame Hydra head doesn’t seem as misshapen in blue, but I had still anticipated finding it too angular. Now that I have the figure, I’m ok with how the head turned out, but I still had asked Ibentmyman-thing to fashion me a replacement head while he was working on replacements for Emma Frost and a classic Madame Hydra. I much prefer Benty’s version – for one, it has a sculpted skull on her forehead while the production figure just has it painted on, and with the softer features and shorter hair it looks eerily like the Mystique from the Mike Mayhew covers.
One team I’d really like to see more of is Freedom Force, aka the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Also from a while back, I made customs of Super Sabre, Stonewall, and Crimson Commando (who made a habit of killing criminals and mistook Storm for one), but I really would want to see a classic Avalanche and Destiny one day. Of course, that would require a classic Mystique to go with them. What to do?
DUDE! YOU MADE SUPER SABRE, STONEWALL, and CRIMSON COMMANDO! That’s pretty sick right there — I didn’t know anyone else had any love for those characters, and I only love them because of their video game appearance.
I prefer the Benty head too, btw. Wish I could get one for my Mystique!
