In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!
Normally in this column I pick out a handful of customized figures, but this week I found a huge lot of customized 1/6 scale military figures and vehicles. I’ve got a lot of admiration for customizers who venture into vehicles and dioramas, because it takes an extraordinary level of commitment and attention to detail. I noticed an unusual amount of vehicles in my eBay search, including:
- 1:6 Scale boat Vietnam Custom Military boat 12″ Figures
- Gi Joe Hasbro 1:6 Scale Half Track Custom Military Vehicle 12″ Figure (1st listing)
- Gi Joe Hasbro 1:6 Scale Half Track Custom Military Vehicle 12″ Figure (2nd listing)
- Gi Joe Hasbro 1:6 Scale Half Track Custom Military Vehicle 12″ Figure (3rd listing)
I thought at first the 3 listings for the half tracks were dupes, and was surprised when I saw they were all unique, and all with 3 or more figures.
A little more clicking and I found that the seller has 12 different 1/6 scale military vehicle and figure combos on auction ending over the next few days. Most are customized, and one includes the original box for the Hasbro G.I. JOE toy.
When I saw that the seller is a vintage collectibles dealer from south Florida, it gave me a bittersweet feeling. Most of the customs I feature are created by talented customizers who ply their trade to supplement their incomes. I realized this lot was likely from a collector who is liquidating his collection or has passed away. In any case, I know these figures have truly been loved.
Hello, Im the customizer who did all these projects you wrote about. Im a collector who worked hard on these projects. I was moving and was looking for some extra cash so I reluctantly sold several of my pieces. Im actually working on morecnowcas I am always actively building with this scale. Anyway thank you for the compliment, I guess, haha, I came across these pics and couldnt figure out why someone listed my pics from a couple years ago. Very cool either way. Regards, N
