SDCC 2015: Mattel WWE [Updated with Mattel and WWE: NXT Superstar of Tomorrow Panel Video and More Pics]

SDCC 2015 Mattel WWE (1 of 16)

Mattel’s WWE team always puts on a great show at Comic-Con. I was able to attend the standing room only Mattel and WWE: NXT Superstar of Tomorrow panel with William Regal, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Charlotte, and Finn Bàlor. After the panel I stopped by the Mattel booth to check out the figures. Being a fan of classic superstars of Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, and the Ultimate Warrior, it’s tough for an old guy like me to keep track of the younger talent, but I did recognize some of the new figures on their way.

Macho Man is getting another figure, and I’m pretty excited to get a new Million Dollar Man with Elite articulation. I have the older Entrance figure that is awesome for playing his theme music, but a new, more animated head sculpt and better articulation is welcome. The fans at the panel were psyched to hear that the Undertaker exclusive from SDCC a few years ago would be re-released, I think as a Defining Moments figure.

Other notable new figures – Sting will have his first Basic figure, and we’re going to have figures for Charlotte, Kevin Owens, Stephanie McMahon and Jimmy Hart. Davey Boy Smith had been released previously, but in one of his later looks. He will get a refresh with what I think is his most iconic look.

Mattel and WWE: NXT Superstar of Tomorrow

Once again, Mattel and WWE have teamed up to bring you an action-packed SDCC panel. WWE & NXT Superstars and Mattel personnel will discuss the tremendous growth in popularity of NXT, weigh in on the next generation of WWE Superstars, and give exclusive sneak peeks of Mattel’s upcoming WWE figure releases. Incredible guest appearances by William Regal, Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Charlotte, and additional special guests.

[Note: Seth Rollins appeared via recorded video message. Finn Bàlor replaced him for the live panel discussion.]

After seeing that Mattel added a zombified Hulk Hogan to the display, I asked the nearby Mattel rep about it. Mattel is testing the waters for a Zombie WWE line. Are you over zombies, or would you buy it?
