Marvel Select Cyclops Press Pic

classic-cyclopsX-Men 138 CoverX-Factor 26 Cover

Diamond Select Toys has just published a picture of the next Marvel Select figure – Cyclops in his Silver Age costume, or what I like to call condom-headed Cyke.

I know a lot of people like the Jim Lee Cyclops costume from the 90’s, but this look is still my favorite (although his costume in the Whedon / Cassaday run of Astonishing X-Men is right up there).  So, if I were giving the art direction on this piece, I’d tell them to make the belt wider and the yellow trunks longer – they could accomplish this by putting the belt above the waist swivel.  The X-buckle should be yellow inside, and the top of his visor should also have more curve.  See?  I’m nuts about this costume.

I also find the X-Factor variant an odd choice – given the pairing with Jean Grey, who was made in her classic Marvel Girl costume with a Rachel Grey variant, and the frequency with which we get Marvel Select figures, X-Factor Cyke will be unhappy and alone for a good long time.  Maybe that’s fitting, because that’s in line with how he was during most of the original X-Men’s run in X-Factor. 😉

Complete the Happy Couple with Silver Age Cyclops

Oh come on, when we created the Jean Grey figure for Marvel Select you HAD to have known that a companion Cyclops wasn’t far behind. Well, here he is. We’ve also worked up a variant based on the first X-Factor outfit, but that’s for another post.

Huge Mattel WWE Update: Series 1 Press Pics and Series 2 Sneak Peek

It’s been a long dry spell since Mattel surprised the wrestling collecting community in February, when it announced it would be taking over the WWE license from long-time holder JAKKS Pacific.  There was hardly a trickle of news until they teased us last month with a press release and a couple of pictures.

Now, with January 1 right around the corner, Mattel has opened the floodgates.  These pics were released through their new Facebook page for Mattel / WWE.  Didn’t know they had a Facebook page?  It was news to me too.

Halo Series 7 Press Pics

I wouldn’t quite say that I was on pins and needles for this McFarlane announcement, as the McF PR people would suggest.  Even though Halo is probably the best McFarlane line ever, I stopped playing the video game franchise at Halo 2.  But because it’s so good, I’m still cherry-picking the toys.

I just picked up the Toys R Us exclusive Mongoose set, but it’s been relegated to the new pile of unopened toys that I hope to one day photograph.  My wife won’t allow me to call it “New Staging Area One” so I’ll take suggestions on what to christen it, even though I know I’ll have to dismantle it really soon.

‘HALO’ SERIES 7 PHOTOGRAPHY REVEALED

Seventh Figure Assortment Coming to Target and Other Stores Early January

The wait is finally over. McFarlane Toys is excited to present this first look at our seventh Halo action figure assortment. Based on the popular Halo video game universe, this assortment includes characters from the Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo Wars video games.

Halo Series 7 will release to stores nationwide in January 2010. We hope the photography will help you cope with having to wait a bit longer before you can own these fantastic action figures.

Battlestar Galactica Daybreak Cylon 2-Pack Press Pic

Here’s the latest from DST on the Battlestar Galactica line.  They’re right – old school does rule!

Everyone took a beating in the finale

daybreakcylons

Here’s the official look at the new Daybreak Cylon 2-pack. Both the ‘modern’ and ‘retro’ Cylons appear battle damaged. Naturally the modern Red Stripe took the worst of it. Old School Rules! (sorry, had to get that out). Anyway, look for it in comic shops and specialty stores early next year.
