Masters of the Universe Classics Update

Mattel posted a Masters of the Universe Classics update on Facebook.  With respect to their proposed solution for subscriptions and bonus figures, I think they’re thinking too specifically about MOTU when they talk about estimating the number of bonus figures so that they can be included in the sub.

I am *not* looking for a sub that includes the bonus figures too.  I want a more general solution that simply lets me combine any order I place that month with my sub – that way I can combine shipping not only with MOTU Classics bonus figures, but with DC Universe Classics, Ghostbusters, and any other items I might want to pick up.  Doesn’t that make more sense to you?

Matty and MOTU Classics update

MOTU Classics TeelaMOTU Classics Zodak

Hey He-Fans,

Wanted to give everyone the latest update on MOTU Classics and try to answer some outstanding questions on the brand.

First off, Teela is sold out. Those who have a 2009 Club Eternia subscription will be getting Teela just as planned. We may not have gotten the shipping confirmation off as quick as we wanted, but the subscriptions were sent first, with the remaining stock sold on MattyCollector.com (and now sold out!)

So if you have a subscription, never fear, the Warrior Goddess is on her way!

In other news, we have completed our customer service hand over to Digital River. We now have a dedicated online customer service option in addition to the 1 877 GO MATTY phone number. By moving customer service from Mattel to Digital River, we are able to better sync the shipping with customer service to better answer your questions and provide the best service possible.

We’ll also have a ton of new content coming soon to the site such as bulletin boards, product archives and heritage product galleries. We’re working everyday to make the site more accessable and user friendly!

A lot of fans have also asked why the 2010 subscription can’t include the “bonus figures” (like Zodak, Goddess and Battle Armor He-Man). The answer is simple. We don’t yet know how many bonus figures we are doing in 2010. The subscriptions can only be for guaranteed figures, and the only figures we know for sure are the 12 monthly figures starting in 2010 with Adora in January.

Right now we are keeping a careful eye on Zodak and the next few “bonus” non subscription figures. If these do well, we will continue the second figure or Large Scale Beast skus in 2010 in some months. If they do not do well, we will just roll the bonus figures into the monthly figure releases. This is why we can’t comment on figures past Moss Man right now.

Once we have a better idea of how much support their is for extra figures, we can lock down exactly how many we will do in 2010 and will then add them to the 2011 subscription. 2010 is still a testing ground, so bear with us as we work out whether or not their is enough support to keep the bonus figures going!

Drop a line anytime and I’ll do my best to answer as quick as possible to keep all of our fans in the loop! Great stuff is coming in 2010, just hold onto your hats cause this will be a wild ride!

GLmulti.jpgGREEN LANTERN: LEGACIES MULTI-PART STATUE:
PART 3: JOHN STEWART AND GUY GARDNER

SCULPTED BY MIKE LOCASCIO

This multi-part statue is a must-have for Green Lantern fans! Green Lanterns from different eras appear together on a Lantern-shaped base, along with their predecessors, the Manhunters, as well as the Guardians of the Universe.

The statue is made up of four separate pieces (sold in three parts), which form a single statue.

Solicited this month is Part 3 of the multi-part statue, featuring John Stewart and Guy Gardner, two fan-favorite Green Lanterns who stood in for Hal Jordan before becoming members of the Corps in their own rights. This part of the statue follows Part 1, featuring Hal Jordan and both classic and modern versions of the Guardians of the Universe, and Part 2, featuring Kyle Rayner and an original Manhunter robot.

The bases of each piece slide together to form a Lantern-shaped base, on which all of the characters stand. Each of the three parts includes a piece of the fourth portion of the statue, which can be easily assembled to form Alan Scott, who rises up from the center of the piece. All three parts of the statue are needed to make Alan Scott.

Part 3 of this statue measures approximately 10” high x 10.5” wide x 5.5” deep, while the entire multi-part statue measures approximately 16” high x 10.5” wide x 11.75” deep when fully assembled.

Auction of Two Masters of the Universe Paintings to Benefit Children Affected by AIDS Foundation

Two original pieces of Masters of the Universe art are up for auction from Mattel to benefit the Children Affected by AIDS Foundation (CAAF).  “Battle Armor He-man with Battle Cat” and “Battle Bones” were painted by William George in 1984 and were used as packaging art for the toys.  Both were featured in the limited edition MOTU Art Book that was sold to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation at San Diego Comic-Con this year, with the Battle Cat painting on the cover.

These paintings are two of over seventy pieces of art up for auction, which also includes items from the Barbie and Hot Wheels archives and original pieces by Mattel employees.

You may see these items in person at the Dream Halloween Art Show Preview Night on Thursday this week and register silent bids.  This is a free event open to the general public.  Live bidding will take place on Saturday at Dream Halloween Los Angeles – tickets for this event are $300 for adults and $250 for kids.  You may also bid by phone, starting at around 5:30PM on Saturday, but have to register in advance by calling 310-258-0850 before end of business on Friday.

The minimum bid for either of the two MOTU pieces is $1,000.  Good luck on your bidding!

How to Fix Marvel Universe Secret Wars Magneto

Spider-Man: Im too tall! Magneto: Im too short!
(Spider-Man) I'm too tall! (Magneto) I'm too short!

When I got Marvel Universe Secret Wars Series 2, Magneto was one of my wanted characters, so I was disappointed that Hasbro opted to use the Daredevil / Bullseye body from way back in the first series of Marvel Universe figures. That body is plagued by a really short torso, and any superhero-sized character will be too short when using it.

Luckily, Magneto has one feature that is going to make this really easy to fix – his big wide belt. Here’s how to do it.

Marvel Motion Comics with Marvel Super Heroes: What The–?! Promo

Fwoosher canonball, who gave us a first look at the SHIELD Super Spies and Ninjas vs. Super Spies Marvel Legends 2-Packs, pointed out the Marvel Motion Comics. I was a fan of Watchmen: the Complete Motion Comic, but the Marvel ones will differ in that they have full voice acting casts, whereas Watchmen was more like a traditional audio book, with a single reader voicing all the characters.

Check out the trailer for the upcoming Astonishing X-Men: Gifted motion comic, available on iTunes starting October 28:

More info, including the first issue of Spider-Woman, Agent of SWORD, at Marvel Motion Comics | Spider-Woman & Astonishing X-Men.

And, a little bonus – some outtakes from the voiceover auditions, from the crew that brings you Marvel Super Heroes: What The-?!
