Tips to Find DC Universe Classics Wave 9 and Pics of Chemo Variant

Like many of you, I have begun to rely increasingly on pre-orders from online retailers for my action figure fix.  So when I got an email on Monday from Big Bad Toy Store (one of the sponsors at AFP and the Fwoosh) saying that they wouldn’t be able to honor my preorder for DC Universe Classics Wave 9 because of a Mattel shortfall in production, I was suitably distressed.  After all, the point of pre-ordering was so I didn’t have to worry about having to deal with the hassle of hunting them down.

If you’re in the same position, here’s some tips you may find helpful to find DCUC Wave 9:

Tip 1: Check your local comic book store. Although Diamond was reportedly shorted, just like everyone else, shipments are showing up at the LCSs.  I was lucky enough to be meeting NYC Fwooshers GrownNerd and Hagop09 at one of their local stores, Midtown Comics, tonight.  And they had *just* put out their shipment right before we arrived.

As an aside, GN showed me the differences between the amount of bubbles in the Chemo Collect & Connect torso and head that comes with Wildcat.  Some folks have theorized that this is a variant, but after seeing it side by side, we’re convinced it’s a production error.  There is an inside shell with more bubbles that some of the Chemo torsos are missing.

ChemoInPackage

As you can see, the number of bubbles is not based on which version of Wildcat you get.  These are both the black-suited version – and if you can’t tell, the properly assembled Chemo piece is in with the figure on the right.  Based on our tiny sample – GN and I bought these two tonight, and Hagop had bought one earlier – missing the inner set of bubbles may be a fairly common, as two out of the three we had bought had the inner piece missing.  It won’t affect constructing Chemo, but it’s something to check for.

Hot Toys Battle Damaged Iron Man Mark III Pics

I have been lamenting not picking up the original Mark III Iron Man from Hot Toys – I’m really a cheap bastard when it comes to what I’ll spend on toys, and there’s still a lot of adjusting I need to do to get accustomed to high-end 1/6 scale figures. And because of that, I can’t bring myself to pay even more on the aftermarket.

I thought I would have to wait until Hot Toys released a something for the Iron Man 2 movie sequel (I have heard there’s not a lot of differences in the armor design), but it looks like I’ll get my chance with this battle damaged version. It has even more features than the original, so if you’re ok with some minor scuffing on various parts of the body you can still have an almost good as new Iron Man with the non-damaged head and chest piece.

Folks who picked up the original, don’t despair – you got the non-helmeted Tony Stark head, and I’ve seen that go for almost as much as the original figure on Ebay!

MOTU Classics Webstor and Dark Knight Bank Robber Joker On Sale September 15

Just wanted to post a quick reminder that Mattel should have two items on sale on Mattycollector this Tuesday, September 15, at Noon EST.  First there’s the Masters of the Universe Classics Webstor.  For those of us who signed up for the MOTU Classics subscription, Webstor is the first figure in it – so subscription holders, I know Mattel has us conditioned to hit the site mid-month, but don’t order one unless you want an extra. 😀

Then there’s the Joker as a Gotham City Thug – that’s a mouthful, so I just think of him as Bank Robber Joker.  However, as of this writing, the Mattycollector site does not yet have the Joker listed.  I guess we still have the business day on Monday to get that listed, but I have a nagging feeling that maybe there’s a production or delivery issue that may delay this figure.  We’ll see.

Uni-Formz Superman – Action Figure Blues

In the superhero urban vinyl genre, Marvel has Mighty Muggs, but there’s no such beast for DC, at least in the mass market retail channel. I had wondered about Mattel’s Attitubes prototypes that they showed at San Diego Comic-Con, but now remember that there were no DC ones shown.

I wonder if that’s because DC Direct has the exclusive on vinyl figures.  If you’re curious about their offerings, called Uni-Formz, Action Figure Blues has pics of the Uni-Formz Superman on their Facebook page.

Hot Toys Terminator Salvation John Connor Final Battle Pics

A couple of days ago Hot Toys published a picture of the headsculpt of their upcoming Marcus Wright figure from Terminator: Salvation. Today, they unleashed a set of pics of John Connor. It’s deemed the “final battle” version, but also includes a Hydrobot like the one he captures and uses in his test of the Terminator jamming signal earlier in the movie.

I wonder if there’s any 1/6 scale movie lights that he could knock over. 😉
