SDCC 2014: Hulk Hogan, Sting, and Razor Ramon Get First Mattel WWE Figures

SDCC 2014 Mattel WWE Defining Moments Hulk Hogan

Mattel held their WWE panel this morning, with Daniel Bryan, Hulk Hogan, Paul Heyman, and Michael Cole joining the Mattel design team on stage. As usual, the WWE talent stole the show (we should have our video of the panel up within a few days), but the Mattel team did manage to reveal some new figures.

My interest is in the Legends, so I was psyched that Hulk Hogan’s return to the WWE and presence on this panel meant an action figure (from Wrestlemania 3) was in the works. No surprise there, really. Some people knew that Razor Ramon was imminent – I didn’t, but enjoyed his bad guy routine and am glad he’s getting a figure. But the real surprise came at the end of the panel, when the Stinger joined the guys on stage after Mattel revealed his figure.

Hogan, Sting, and Ramon will all appear in the revived WWE Defining Moments line for 2015. You can see the trio and an additional wave of the WWE Elite figures in our Mattel WWE album.

SDCC 2014: Hasbro Reveals Marvel Legends Avengers (Odin Build-a-Figure) Wave for 2015

SDCC 2014 Hasbro Marvel Legends Avengers 2015

As promised, the Hasbro Marvel team unveiled the Avengers wave that will join Marvel Legends in 2015. This wave finds a home for the Sentry variant originally planned for Hyperion back in 2013, and the fairly recent Thor that was part of the Jubilee wave before it went exclusive.

They are joined by a much welcomed update to Scarlet Witch (with this figure, I think Hasbro is out to make a point that they can do better than Toy Biz), Machine Man, and the Carol Danvers version of Captain Marvel. I’m glad to see both a masked and unmasked version of Carol for this figure – and it’s nice to see her getting a lot of love in the recent reveals. To round it out, there’s the build-a-figure Odin – by His beard, finally!

You can see the Marvel Legends Avengers 2015 wave in our Hasbro Marvel Legends album. I’ve also included a bunch more shots of the Marvel Legends that were already up during Preview Night.

SDCC 2014: Hot Toys Back to the Future and Aliens Movie Franchises

SDCC 2014 Hot Toys Back to the Future

Believe me – I have nothing against the many other companies that have made action figures for these movies. But when you see Hot Toys’ renditions of characters from the Back to the Future and Aliens franchises, it’s almost as if the clouds have parted and light shines down from plastic heaven.

And they’ve only just begun, with Marty McFly and his DeLorean Time Machine, and Ellen Ripley from Alien and Aliens, the latter including the Power Loader Exo-Suit. Sure, these will cost you an arm and a leg, and possibly a kidney, when you add them to your collection, but it will so be worth it!

SDCC 2014: Hot Toys Batman / Dark Knight

SDCC 2014 Hot Toys Dark Knight Bat Signal

I know what you were thinking – with Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy wrapped up, our wallets might get a break from Hot Toys Batman stuff. At least until Batman vs. Superman comes out, and because a lot of us hate the idea of Batfleck, maybe that break might go longer. Well, in a word… WRONG.

Hot Toys is making the most of the Dark Knight license adding multi-packs, including a Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth set, and a Robin, Commissioner Gordon, and Bat Signal (oddly called the “Batman Spotlight”) set. And, to top it off, we’re also getting a Batman from the Arkham City game from Hot Toys – because we need that character in every single scale known to action figure collectors.

I forgot to get pics of the Hot Toys Bank Robber Joker version 2, available at Sideshow as a summer “Toy Fairs” exclusive. I’ll go back tomorrow.

SDCC 2014: Hot Toys Marvel Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy

SDCC 2014 Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy

I’d only seen Hot Toys’ teaser of Star-Lord for Comic-Con, but was happy to see all of the Guardians of the Galaxy present at Sideshow Collectibles’ display of the Hot Toys Marvel movie characters. I snapped pics of as much of the Guardians as I could, and included the recent additions to the Avengers / Captain America / Iron Man lines. Falcon and Winter Soldier both look awesome, and the Bones armor from Iron Man 3 has an impressive amount of detail. They also had the SHIELD Helicarrier on site – it could double for a small coffee table.

I believe you can pre-order Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Iron Man in the Hot Toys section at Sideshow Collectibles. Happy shopping!
