Marvel Universe 2010 Wave 1 in September?

Based on the Hasbro Marvel presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, we’ve been calling this “wave 1” of the 2010 lineup of Marvel Universe. After all, the line is getting a packaging update to represent the Dark Reign currently underway in Marvel Comics and the numbering is resetting to start at “001” again.

However, today we stumbled across this listing for Marvel Universe “Series 06” at BigBadToyStore.com. Perhaps this line is selling through well enough for Hasbro to push up product. That’d be a nice change from what we’ve seen on the Marvel Legends side of things.

DC Universe Classics Gotham City 5 – thefwoosh.com

You know, it’s killing me, seeing all these pictures of the Wal-Mart exclusive DC Universe Classics Gotham City 5.  My wife caught me cursing at the screen the other day and took it upon herself to scour the local Wal-Marts – I say that loosely because the nearest is 45 minutes away.  No luck.  Damn you, Bay Area scalpers and collectors!  Once again you’ve brought me nothing but tears!

So, I continue to torture myself with pictures.  This latest set of fantastic pics is from the Fwoosh.  VeeBee is considerably harder to please than me – out of the five figures, only Supes and Lex (of course) are making it to the prime spots on his shelf.  C’mon, VeeBee!  The name of the set is “Gotham City 5” and you pick the two guys from Metropolis?! 😀

If I ever get hold of the set, in addition to Lex and Supes, Bats and most likely Two-Face will get the nod.  I never played the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe game, so I have no special affinity for the modern Catwoman suit in purple.

Gotham City 5 - Batman, Two-Face, Catwoman, Lex Luthor, and Superman

Overall, I am pretty happy with this set. I get a new default classic Superman and my favorite version of Lex for my shelf. The Two Face is also a big winner, especially for the Bronze Age crowd. It seems that, so far, this set is flying off of the shelves and that is a really good thing in my opinion – I REALLY want to see more things like this in the future from Mattel. I will take the regular series, two packs, box sets, the whole deal to get as many new characters as possible as quickly as possible. This is a tried and true formula for success in a box set – the two heaviest hitters in the DCU accompanied by some demanded rereleased characters and a new version of a character.

I would really love to see Mattel take a little bit more a risk in the future with a five pack and give us some JSA, all villains or the FOREVER PEOPLE! Yeah, I know pipe dream but I won’t rest until I have them. This set is a great start though and I hope it will prove to the retailers that this is a viable execution for new product.

Marvel Legends Fan’s Choice Results

It’s a few weeks later than we expected them, but Hasbro has released the results of the 2010 Marvel Legends Fan’s Choice poll they kicked off at San Diego Comic-Con.  Your picks?  Deadpool, Valkyrie, and Black Widow.

At the show, I talked with Scott George of the Hasbro Marvel team – we differed on how we thought the poll might turn out.  He thought that the vote would swing in favor of the more eclectic choices.  I counted on the mass market kicking in and thought it would go the way of the more popular characters.  With Deadpool coming in at #1, I’m guessing it went more my way than his.  Scott, you owe me a Coke!

Now the arduous task is ahead of us – waiting for Hasbro to release their accompanying three picks!

FAN’S CHOICE MARVEL LEGENDS – THE RESULTS ARE IN!

Because you demanded it! You debated the choices, you cast your votes and now it’s time to reveal the winners – the top 3 fan favorites as decided by you! So, without further delay, the winners of the 2010 Marvel Legends Fan’s Choice Poll are:

As we’re sure you already know, these three winners have now made it into the next wave of Marvel Legends 2 packs along with three figures (our picks) to be announced later. Three new two packs in the wave, 6 total figures, you pick three and we pick three – nice!

We want to thank all of the Marvel Fans and collectors who logged on and cast their votes – the response was tremendous! It was great talking with you in San Diego… and we hope your choices made the cut. Keep your eyes open for an announcement on the Hasbro picks for this wave, coming soon!

DC Universe Classics Wave 10, Part Dos – thefwoosh.com

VeeBee at the Fwoosh completed his First Look at DC Universe Classics wave 10, exclusive to Wal-Mart. Mattel has said that Wal-Mart significantly increased their order size, so I am hopeful that wave 10 will be much easier to find than wave 5, which included Amazo, Atom, Black Lightning, Eradicator, Riddler, and Metallo (C&C).

Wave 10, with Batman, Beast Boy, Forager, Joker, Man-Bat, Power Girl, Robotman, and Imperiex (C&C), looks to be packed solid with winners. Except maybe for Imperiex, the Collect and Connect figure. Not that he’s not imposing and a nice looking figure, but I don’t know anything about him, but don’t feel bad because many of my colleagues with deep comic knowledge were also stumped.

Power Girl really looks like she’s turned out quite nicely. Might be the best paint apps translation from prototype to production.

Check out many many many more pics at Fwoosh’s DCUC Wave 10 First Look.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Round two coming ‘atcha! Yesterday we brought you a First Look at the upcoming DCUC 10 Batman, Joker, Man-Bat and Beast Boy; today we have your sneak peek at the rest of the wave (well most of it anyway) as we now have pictures of Power Girl, Robotman and the Collect and Connect figure, the imposing Imperiex.

JAKKS Pacific Announces UFC Wave 2

I had no idea that JAKKS Pacific even had a UFC Facebook page until folks at Critical Mess started talking about it.  JAKKS is definitely making the most of social marketing, announcing the second wave of their UFC line exclusively on Facebook.

I’m not a UFC fan, but I am glad to see JAKKS move into super-articulated territory on their deluxe figures.  I hope Mattel takes note and goes super-articulated on WWE.

Exclusive info! Click below to find out the line-up for WAVE 2 of JAKKS’ UFC Action Figure line, coming Spring 2010. Which figure do you think will sell the most? Which fighter would YOU like to see in upcoming Waves?
