This Day in Star Wars: August 13, 2013 (Well, Yesterday Actually)

This-day-in-Star-Wars

Yesterday afternoon, I saw this image of a TIE Fighter on the Gentle Giant Facebook page. And as I was thinking about how old the date on the picture made me feel, the UPS truck pulled up and dropped off the first of three boxes with the new Star Wars Black Series action figures from Hasbro. There’s nothing like toys to make you feel young again!

Thinking that this must be the workings of the living Force, I decided to add another auspicious date in Star Wars history. You don’t want to know how long it took, with me bumbling around in Photoshop. Suffice to say, I feel old again.

Incidentally, it’s Amazon that started filling orders first (and I don’t know why they shipped my order in 3 separate boxes) – I had found it available for pre-order there first, and then at ToysRUs.com later, and ended up with orders with both. I went back to check, and it looks like all the Star Wars Black Series 6-inch figures are back in stock at Amazon, for the regular $19.99 price. If you are still looking, that’s the best way I’ve found to get them individually (letting you army build the Sandtroopers.) My wallet has a bad feeling about this.

Impulse Buy: LEGO Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine

BTTF2

When my action figure bug kicked in, I reluctantly gave up LEGO. But I’ve loved LEGOs since I was a kid, and I often stare at them longingly in the aisles when I’m on yet another fruitless toy run.

But the Time Machine from Back to the Future? With Marty McFly and Doc Brown mini-figures? Maybe it’s the lack of action figures that I had always hoped Mattel would make when they acquired the license. Maybe it’s the longing I’ve had for the Diamond Select Toys DeLoreans, or the BTTF Minimates that I denied myself a few years back. All that pent-up demand – this I could not resist.

This set is from the LEGO CUUSOO program – CUUSOO is not a LEGO acronym – it’s a phonetic spelling for the Japanese word that means “wish.” This program allows people to submit their proposals for LEGO products. If they get enough support from the CUUSOO community, then LEGO will evaluate the proposal to become official products. This is the fourth LEGO product to come out of CUUSOO.

You can get the DeLorean Time Machine at the Shop Lego website for $34.99. Don’t fight it – it’s your density.

Speaking of Hot Toys and Iron Man, Can I Borrow a Couple Grand?

Current Hot Toys Iron Man 3 Line-Up (minus Midas and the Tony Stark figures)

If you wanted to own all the Hot Toys Iron Man 3 armors in this shot from the Hot Toys Facebook page, it would set you back a cool $1,659.94 (if I did the math right). And that’s not counting the Mark 38 Igor and the Mark 39 sub-orbital Gemini armors, because while those two Iron Man armors were shown at San Diego Comic-Con, they haven’t been officially made available for pre-order.

On top of that, there’s an exclusive Mark 21 Midas that was just announced. And then of course, we’ve yet to see Hot Toys versions of the Mark 40 Shotgun or the Mark 16 Sneaky. (Yes, I’ve been Googling Iron Man armors.)

So I think I’m going to need a little more than that.
