ThreeA Toys KA-MUMBs (Steam-Powered Mummies) on Sale Now

Somehow these Adventure Kartel KA-MUMB mummies from 3A Toys are not as appealing to me as the Zombs, but for those of you looking to pick up these guys, they just showed up on at Bambaland. I hope I don’t regret sitting this one out – with the Zombs it wasn’t until I got a few in 1/12 scale that I realized I should have gotten them when I had the chance.

AFP’s Best of 2012 – Sandman’s Picks

Happy New Year everyone! Well, 2012 has come and gone, and like every year, Ron has asked us to pick our own Best of 2012!

I have to say, 2012 was a tough year for toy collecting for me. With prices going up across the board and my wife and I having our first baby this past July, the budget for toys had to be trimmed down. It didn’t help that there were so many awesome toys that came out during this year! Of the toys that I did manage to get, here’s my Top 5 for 2012!

#5 ThreeA Zombs

These guys were actually available for pre-order from ThreeA in November 2011, but since they came out in 2012 they’re on this list! They’re super articulated zombies with different head sculpts and uniforms and they were a hoot to play with! I wish I had an army of these! I also wish I had gotten one of those War Zombs!

Who is Your Best of 2012 Action Figure?

Best of 2012 Hopefuls

As we close in on the end of the year, I’ve been trying to figure who will make it to my short list of best action figures for 2012. I think I’ll have a tougher time this year than I had choosing my Best of 2011 figures, topped by the Marvel Universe Sentinel.

With one of my favorite lines, DC Universe Classics, scaling back, my collection became a little more varied this year. Masters of the Universe Classics remained a mainstay, but I also branched out into Square Enix’s Play Arts Kai lines, especially Street Fighter. And with more 3A Toys releases coming in the 1/12 scale, the Adventure Kartel Zombs became an expensive army building exercise. It also helped that this year saw the relaunch of Marvel Legends – oh how I’ve missed you, ML! There’s more – I had to pick up the fearsome foursome from the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line from Playmates. And Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Minimates continued to put out tiny offerings that were too cute to pass up.

I’m sure as I look through the stuff I’ve picked up throughout the year, I’ll find even more figures that could top the list. But if you’ve got some obvious winners that I’ve missed, be sure to let me know. I’ve got some Free Stuff that could head your way, as I make room for the New Year!

ThreeA Toys Fighting JC and the God Squad – Experimenting with RAW and More

Fighting JC 1

For a long time I tried to steer clear of 1/6 scale figures from 3A Toys, for good reason – I knew if I succumbed it would be break the bank. So when the 3AA exclusive for 2012 turned out to be the first 1/6  to be offered with the subscription, I was screwed. After getting the F-Legion figure, I set about picking up the figures I always wanted. Fighting JC from Adventure Kartel was at the top of the list, and I knew I needed a Tommy Mission too. In my version of the 3A-verse, JC, Tommy, and F-Legion form the Zomb-crushing “God Squad.”

The shot above utilizes three LEDs – my two book lights are on the left side in front and behind at ground level. I also just got a new, larger LED task light, which was on sale at Amazon. It’s behind and above on the right. It’s quite a bit stronger, and is a bit cooler, temperature-wise. I’ve always been fortunate to work with matched lights, which makes post-processing a little more simple. Here, I got to see some of the challenges when you don’t have matched lights – this shot required some color correction to take down some yellow, as my camera wasn’t quite sure what to do.

ThreeA Toys Adventure Kartel Removalists Zomb 2-Pack One Hour Sale on 12/6

Given that this upcoming 3A Toys release is limited to one hour, I double-checked the start time with a fancy world clock calculator. The Adventure Kartel Removalists 2-pack goes on sale on Thursday, 12/6, at 8PM EST. I’m planning on splitting a set with someone, but not before switching the shirts and shoes to get a black and white mix. Depending on the cost, I might pick up another set just for the pure black and white experience.

Some conspiracy theorists are saying the window to buy is limited just to drum up more business – the idea is that 3A collectors have already been inundated with Zombs. I don’t know about you, but I still need more Zombs to bolster my collection.

You can pick these up at the Bambaland Store – remember, 12/6 at 8PM EST. Good luck!
