Back to the Future Minimates DeLorean Press Pics

Alright, I’m impressed.  Art Asylum got working gull-wing doors on this Minimates version of the Back to the Future DeLorean.  Now all we need are Marty and Doc in their radiation suits and a Minimates version of Einstein!

This Isn’t Your Grandfather’s Time Machine!

Seeing a Minimate version of the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future really made my year, especially considering how for a while I thought we might not see any more Back to the Future Minimates. So to celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest movies of all time, I’m very happy with our Minimate Vehicle. Two versions of this little guy are coming to stores and we’ve gotten lots of requests to show more photography – so here’s the “clean” version for Toys R Us! To find out what Minimates are coming with each of these time-traveling tin cans – check out the January shipping issue of Toy Fare magazine.

Marvel Select Cyclops Base Prototype Pic

Usually, when someone engages in gratuitous self-promotion, like describing their own custom action figure as “AWESOME L@@K” in their eBay auction title, I take it with a big grain of salt.  But this prototype picture of the base that will come with the Marvel Select Cyclops really is cool.  I had nitpicks about how Cyclops looks, but the idea of interlocking bases that make up a Danger Room is pretty damn compelling – and I don’t even collect the regular-sized Marvel Select figures.

OK, now THIS is COOL

One of the more appealing features of the Marvel Select line has been the elaborate bases that come with the figures. Lately I’ve had to scale back on that due to the extra details (and in some cases, raw size) of some figures, and it has broken my heart (or whatever I have that passes for a heart). Well, now we have come back to where we began. In the true spirit of the line, I present to you the Danger Room base that will come with Cyclops. This thing looks awesome. And, if you look at the sides of the walls and floor you will see that there are grooves just in case we want to do more X-Men (cough, Colossus, cough) with other Danger Room sections. HUGE props to Bill Mancuso for this one. I said I wanted a Danger Room base (actually, I had a different plan originally, but we won’t talk about that – ever) and he took the concept and ran with it. Now all I want to do is focus on building the complete Danger Room (but y’all will have to wait because I can’t do all X-Men all the time). Enjoy…

Marvel Select Deadpool Painted Prototype Pic

As a Marvel Legends collector, I’m one of the people who wish that DST would stick to larger figures in Marvel Select who would complement my collection.  But I do recognize that Marvel Select collectors need love too – and I like this Deadpool more now that I’ve seen it with paint.  Ball-jointed hips and double-knees help too, and I wonder if those are elbros (ball-jointed elbows a la Hasbro) too.

Yeah, it’s getting late and the jokes are getting cornier – what can I say? To make up for it, I’ll let you see the approved paint deco for the Marvel Select Deadpool figure. I don’t have any pictures handy for the weapons or the unmasked head, but take my word for it when I say they complete the figure perfectly.

Art Asylum Announces Marvel Select Deadpool

I suppose I’m not surprised that Marvel Select is coming out with a Deadpool figure.  After all, Deadpool is starting to enter Wolverine territory, with three monthly comics, guest appearances all over the Marvel Comics universe, and his own movie in development with Ryan Reynolds reprising his role from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

I’ll have to do some more image searching but the figure looks very heavily influenced by Rob Liefeld’s early Deadpool art, especially the design of the mask and torso, but the wrist and ankle bands don’t coincide with Deadpool’s first appearance.  I am also curious as far as timing, since Hasbro has Deadpool slated for an appearance in a Fall 2010 Marvel Legends 2-pack.

Presenting….Deadpool

Sorry kids, nothing clever to say to introduce this guy (I’ll save the witty remarks for the paint stage). Here is the newest in the Marvel Select line – Deadpool. He’ll be coming with a ton of accessories (weapons, lots of weapons) and be on the lookout for a chase variant unmasked version (which I have but I’m not showing ‘cuz I’m mean like that).
