Hot Toys Announces First Quarter Scale Iron Man – Avengers: Age of Ultron Mark XLIII

Hot Toys Quarter Scale Avengers Age of Ultron Iron Man Mark XLIII 01

Have a big house and an even bigger toy budget? For those of you who think 12-inches of Iron Man isn’t enough, Hot Toys has just announced the first quarter scale Iron Man. The Iron Man Mark XLIII from Avengers: Age of Ultron stands at an impressive 20-inches tall and has all the bells and whistles you could expect – an interchangeable Tony Stark head and three pairs of hands; LED light-up eyes, ARC reactor, and repulsors; and an Ultron Sentry base with an arm and head that Iron Man can rip off of it.

You can pre-order the Marvel Iron Man Mark XLIII Quarter Scale Figure from Sideshow Collectibles for $544.99. That’s a bargain, considering their listing for the Hot Toys Hulkbuster Iron Man (one inch taller at 21-inches tall) at $824.99. Guess it’s time to tell my wife we need a second mortgage!

Soapbox Sunday: Marvel and Fox Need to Reconcile… For the Sake of the Toys

Deadpool, X-Men, and Fantastic Four - Marvel characters licensed by Fox

Imagine this – it’s the Avengers versus the X-Men and Fantastic Four. At first, Spider-Man is with Wolverine and Reed Richards, but at a pivotal moment, he switches sides and joins Captain America and Iron Man. Is this the plot for next big comic book crossover event? No, it’s another case of life imitating art – it’s what’s really happening today with the movie licensing business at Marvel.

Marvel has been trying to regain control of the characters it licensed out years ago to other movie studios, before they had their own movie business. Earlier this year, Marvel Studios and Sony penned a peace treaty that gives Marvel some say over what Sony will do with Spider-Man. But with Fox, who continues to own the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four, the not-too-subtle war has no end in sight. And we’re suffering for it.

Weekend Toy Run: Pre-Order the Sideshow Exclusive Hot Toys Stealth Iron Man Mark VII

Hot Toys Avengers Stealth Mode Iron Man Mark VII 01

There were so many Iron Man armors during the “House Party Protocol” finale to Iron Man 3 that I’m sure I’ve missed a bunch, and this Mark VII is in stealth mode, after all. But this exclusive from Hot Toys is labeled as a movie promo version for the Avengers, where the Mark VII debuted, and I don’t recall Iron Man fighting Loki or the Chitauri with stealth mode activated. So let’s chalk this up to Hot Toys milking the Iron Man cash cow for all it’s worth. 😀

If I sound cynical, it’s just that the re-deco looks pretty awesome, but I’m already stuck wondering if I can afford the Hot Toys Hulkbuster Iron Man. But iif you’re building your Iron Man armory, this will be a more limited release – Hot Toys has announced some Asian outlets, but like with their other exclusives, you can pre-order the Marvel Iron Man Mark VII Stealth Mode Version Sixth Scale Figure in the U.S. at Sideshow Collectibles.

Hot Toys Reveals Hawkeye from Avengers: Age of Ultron

Hot Toys Avengers Age of Ultron Hawkeye 01

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is the latest Avenger from Age of Ultron to get a Hot Toys figure. Like Cap, Iron Man, Hulk, and Black Widow, Hawkeye’s been updated with his costume look from the movie, sporting the long sleeve tunic that looks more appropriate for those cold weather sequences in the movie. His headsculpt looks better to me this time around, and yes, he still comes with those cool shades. He’s also armed with a baker’s dozen of arrows and nine interchangeable arrow heads – if you ask me, that still doesn’t seem like enough when you’re being overrun by a horde of Ultron drones.

I skipped the first version of Hawkeye when the original movie came out, but feel compelled to complete my Avengers with him now. You can pre-order the Marvel Hawkeye Sixth Scale Figure from Sideshow Collectibles.

This just leaves Thor and Nick Fury for the major characters that may get re-dos for the sequel, and the mutant Inhuman twins, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, for their first Hot Toys figures. Avengers Assemble!

Hot Toys Reveals Smoking Hot Avengers: Age of Ultron Black Widow

Hot Toys Avengers 2 Age of Ultron - Black Widow 08

ScarJo as the Black Widow is the latest Avenger from Age of Ultron to get a Hot Toys figure. She joins the Hulkbuster Iron Man, the Hulk, the Iron Man Mark XLIII, Captain America, and Ultron Prime.

I like the costume accents and all the accessories that distinguish this Black Widow from her previous figures from Captain America: the Winter Soldier and Iron Man 2, but still think they may need to make slight tweaks to the head sculpt. Maybe it’s those eyes that look to be vaguely focused off in the distance.

Haven’t seen the pre-order page go up yet, but I’ll be checking Sideshow Collectibles. Avengers Assemble! [Update: The Marvel Black Widow Marvel Sixth Scale Figure is now available to pre-order at Sideshow.]
