Diamond Select Toys Back to the Future Part II 25th Anniversary Four-Pack

I love Minimates and I love Back to the Future, but this news has me all down because it just makes me feel old. 25 years?!

I need a Delorean so I can warn my teenage self not to squander my youth. And to invest in Microsoft, then Apple and Google. 🙂

Great Scott…25 years

Unbelievably it has been a little of 25 years since Back to the Future first graced movie screens. Celebrate a quarter century with this Minimates four pack. You get Marty McFly, Doc Brown, Biff Tannen, and the first ever Principal Strickland Minimate. Look for it in a specialty store near you.

AFP Ask Matty Round-Up for 11/15/10

We thought maybe we had been stood up by the Mattel team, but they eventually showed up tonight with the answers for the latest round of Q&A. Thanks to Toy Guru and the team at Mattel!

1. We’ve seen what looks like a factory-produced Green Lantern Classics Abin Sur figure with double-jointed elbows and Black Hand with double-jointed elbows and knees. Does this mean that you’re taking opportunities to introduce figures with double-jointed articulation when you have the opportunity to add new tooling? Or was this a production error?

Yes, we are looking at adding more articulation into DCUC figures when logistically possible.

Universal Licensing Deals – Mattel Gets Back to the Future and NECA Says Hello to My Little Friend

There was lots of buzz today about Mattel acquiring the rights to Back to the Future that originated, of all places, on the Shocker Toys Facebook page. Some intrepid Google searching confirmed that the deal was one among many new licensing deals for Universal. Speculation is already starting about whether this will be a MattyCollector.com line and if the Four Horsemen will be their design partner, as it is with Mattel’s other classic movie license for Ghostbusters.

Nestled within the licensing announcements was the news that National Entertainment Collectibles (aka NECA) has picked up Scarface. As much as I dig Al Pacino, I hope that we get some of the other characters in the movie. Has there been an action figure with Michelle Pfeiffer’s likeness yet?

A number of merchandise deals have been secured by Universal Partnerships & Licensing for properties including Curious George, Fast & Furious and Despicable Me.

The latest partners include:

st_tos5_kirkfrontst_tos5_scottyfrontst_tos5_romulanfront

Don’t be fooled by the link in Diamond’s shipping update for Star Trek TOS Series 5 – the lineup was changed to Kirk in his green dress shirt, a reissue of Scotty, and a Romulan. The DST website still shows short-sleeved McCoy, Nurse Chapel, Yeoman Rand, and Kirk – the only survivor of this particular away party. The other three are still in limbo.

And, if you missed the latest Ask DST update, Chuck reveals that the next Marvel Select figure will be Gambit.

Back to the Future Minimates DeLorean Press Pics

Alright, I’m impressed.  Art Asylum got working gull-wing doors on this Minimates version of the Back to the Future DeLorean.  Now all we need are Marty and Doc in their radiation suits and a Minimates version of Einstein!

This Isn’t Your Grandfather’s Time Machine!

Seeing a Minimate version of the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future really made my year, especially considering how for a while I thought we might not see any more Back to the Future Minimates. So to celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest movies of all time, I’m very happy with our Minimate Vehicle. Two versions of this little guy are coming to stores and we’ve gotten lots of requests to show more photography – so here’s the “clean” version for Toys R Us! To find out what Minimates are coming with each of these time-traveling tin cans – check out the January shipping issue of Toy Fare magazine.
