Hot Toys Falcon from The Winter Soldier Confirmed at Hot Toys Captain America Exhibition

Captain America - The Winter Soldier Join Forces at Hysan Place 01

If Hot Toys’ reveals today from their Winter Soldier line-up weren’t enough to get you pumped for action figures from the movie, they’re also opening a Captain America exhibit today at Hysan Place in Hong Kong. The exhibit will feature the first live reveals of the Winter Soldier and the three Cap figures, as well as dioramas showing scenes from The First Avenger, The Avengers, and The Winter Soldier – recreated with Hot Toys figures.

The big reveal, though, was the acknowledgement that Hot Toys is indeed making a figure of Falcon, even if he wasn’t yet on display. I think he’ll be in high demand – he was pretty well realized in the movie, and I had been pretty skeptical that Marvel could translate this character from the comics to the big screen.

Hot Toys Reveals Captain America and Steve Rogers Figures from The Winter Soldier

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier opening in theaters tomorrow, Hot Toys has been on a tear to reveal their figure offerings from the Marvel tentpole. We’ve previously seen Cap in his “Golden Age” costume, an updated Black Widow, and the Winter Soldier himself. Today, they’ve revealed two figures – Cap in his Stealth S.T.R.I.K.E. Suit (based on the “Super Soldier” costume from the comics) and Steve Rogers in his civvies. This version of Cap is available solo or in a two-figure set with the plain clothes Rogers – which sadly for our wallets, is the only way to get an unhelmeted head on the new suit, at least for now.

Once you see the opening of the movie, you’ll be clamoring for the Super Soldier suit. I won’t say more, other than it’s a totally kick-ass sequence. No pre-orders up yet, but these will be up at Sideshow Collectibles soon, joining Golden Age Cap, Black Widow, and the Winter Soldier. At this point, I’m wondering if this is it, or if Hot Toys still has a Falcon up their sleeves. Hope so!

Hot Toys Announces the Winter Soldier from Captain America

Hot Toys Winter Soldier from Captain America - TWS 01

I’m worried that because the Winter Soldier was such a fantastic story line in Ed Brubaker’s Captain America comics that my expectations for Captain America: The Winter Soldier are unduly high. With a week to go before the movie opens, Hot Toys has revealed their figure of the former Bucky (can anyone consider that a spoiler?)

No disappointment with the figure – aside from that I haven’t seen a pre-order for him yet. But the “Golden Age” Captain America that Hot Toys revealed earlier is now up for pre-order at Sideshow Toys for $209.99. I’m sure the Winter Soldier will be up there soon.

Border Patrol: Marvel Legends Falcon, Electro, and Sunspot

This week’s Border Patrol features two Marvel characters from upcoming movies plus one that would be cool to see in an X-Men movie.

  • Marvel Legends Falcon (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) by Stevid customs – while a bit simplified from the ultra-detailed costume revealed for the Winter Soldier movie, this Falcon nevertheless captures the feel of the movie costume – ends Mar 26, 2014 18:30:13 PDT
  • Marvel Legends Electro by Spidey Customs – made from the movie Electro, this custom attempts to take it back to the comic look with some creative license applied – ends Apr 01, 2014 02:33:48 PDT
  • Marvel Legends Sunspot by Shinobitron – while I was never much of a fan of the New Mutants in the comics, I think a character like Sunspot would have been a better fit for the younger X-Men in the First Class movies, rather than creating a continuity problem by adding Cyclops’ younger brother Havok to a movie set 30+ years earlier – this custom looks sharp but could use some of those sunspots – ends Mar 30, 2014 18:24:05 PDT

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!

Customizers, the submission deadline for CustomCon 37 is coming up on April 7.
