Early Access for 4/15 MattyCollector Sale Now Open

Update @ Noon PST: MOTUC Webstor is sold out, and WWE Christian is a no-show in Early Access.

MattyCollector Early Access 4-15

It’s 8AM, so Early Access to Mattel’s 4/15 sale is now open. Up for grabs, for however long the customer service stock lasts, are the Masters of the Universe Classics Mosquitor, Webstor, and the Snake Men 2-pack. I wonder if we’ll see a fast sell-out on the Snake Men from army builders who’ve realized just how great those figures are – but the higher $54 price tag might discourage it a bit. Also available to Early Access participants is the WWE Elite Christian Flashback figure. I wonder how much longer we’ll continue to see WWE figures on MattyCollector, because we still have some of the fan-voted figures still available from last year. Only Andre and Miss Elizabeth were quick sell-outs.

Come 4/15, Mattel will add the Masters of the Universe Classics Snake Face and the DC Universe Classics Larfleeze to the mix for the open sales date. I’ve been looking forward to Larfleeze for a while – he arrives on somewhat of a bittersweet note, as he had originally been announced as bring bound for retail shelves. That was before retailers support for DCUC waivered, resulting in the new All-Stars / Unlimited direction. But hey – Monsieur Mallah and the Brain ship to Club Infinite Earths subscribers this month! Hurray!

For your convenience, here’s the bundle page for the 4/15 MattyCollector sale. It opens up at 9AM PST on Monday. Happy shopping!

DC Universe Classics Elongated Man and Dr. Manhattan Headline Limited MattyCollector Sale on 3/15

MattyCollector.com March Sale

March Madness takes on a whole new meaning for Masters of the Universe Classics collectors with MattyCollector’s sale this month. First, Fang Man, the Club Eternia figure for March, is available only to subscribers – so for those of you cherry pickers who were looking forward to one of the big hitters from Filmation, you are out of luck.

Early Access this month proved to be a bit of a rage-generator for some as well, with Strobo selling out within a couple of minutes. I am guessing this will be hailed as a success for Mattel, who also sold all of their stock of Mekaneck and WWE Miss Elizabeths. What does that leave for sales day? MOTUC Keldor (remaining customer service stock), DC Universe Classics Elongated Man, Watchmen’s Dr. Manhattan, and WWE Shawn Michaels. Although what you are looking for may already be sold out, here’s the bundle page for the March MattyCollector sale.

Masters of the Universe Classics Castle Grayskull and Club Filmation Pre-Orders Open Now and Ram Man and Jitsu on Sale 2/15

MattyCollector Filmation Subscription Sale

As if the February sale wasn’t already big enough, with the Masters of the Universe Classics Ram Man pushed from January and pimp-handed Jitsu going on sale – Mattel has also re-opened pre-orders on Castle Grayskull and started taking pre-orders for the new 6 figure subscription for MOTUC Filmation characters. There’s so much going on with Masters that it’s almost an afterthought that DC Universe Classics Phantom Stranger is also going on sale tomorrow.

Icer, Shakoti, and Batros were revealed as the Filmation subscriptions first three figures, for July, August, and September respectively. And hoping that the reveal of Castle Grayskull would be enough to motivate folks still on the edge, Mattel re-opened the pre-order page for another go. However, they’ve increased the price to $275, with the warning that there may not even be a day-of sale – and if there is, the price could be bumped up again.

By now I’m desensitized to the scare tactics Mattel uses in its marketing, but let me ask you this – wouldn’t it be better if they pitched it as a discount to people who pre-order, vs a punishment to those who wait for the day-of sale? C’mon, Mattel – positive reinforcement makes for a much more pleasant sales experience.

AFP’s Best of 2012 – Ron’s Picks

It’s almost February, so I figured I better get to my picks (and pics) for Best of 2012! I’ll get us started with one of the choices I included in the Fwoosh Best of 2012 post – the Marvel Legends Build-A-Figure Arnim Zola.

2012 was a great year for Marvel Legends, with Hasbro finally getting the flagship line back to retail. And it was an especially great year for Marvel villains. In the three 2012 waves, we got: Terrax, Constrictor, Klaw, Madame Masque, Madame Hydra, Daken, Mystique, Dr. Doom, Thunderball, and Piledriver. You could even throw in the Marvel Select Ultron.

But none stand above Arnim Zola, the Build-A-Figure for wave 2. C’mon! It’s Arnim Zola!

Best of 2012 - Marvel Legends Arnim Zola

The World War II WMD dealer looks like he popped out of a Jack Kirby drawing. He’s got the classic orange and purple color scheme, with the tunic and skirt. His legs are ribbed for your pleasure, and he’s got the trademark Kirby flare on his crotch flap. And that Zola face? Pure evil.

To top it all off, via the Madames and Wrecking Crew running changes, you can give your classic Zola a modern twist – the BAF pieces that came with Madame Hydra and Piledriver let you build a Red Skull trapped in a Zola construct. That’s why Zola is the best of 2012 – quit arguing and just accept it.
