Yes, I know that Mattel is releasing a Tomar-Re with the DC Universe Classics Green Lantern’s Light 5-pack that should be hitting Wal-Mart any day now. From a customs standpoint, I’ve had a recent streak where customs I’ve made or commissioned have been cruelly announced as upcoming retail figures by Mattel – see Sinestro and Riddler from Giants of Doom, our group entry to CustomCon 26. But in Tomar-Re’s case, it was deliberate.
The DC Universe Classics Giants of Doom entry in CustomCon 26 started with my desire for a more scale-accurate Sinestro. As that custom came together, I started feeling the pangs of nostalgia-fueled desire for a complete Legion of Doom. Thoughts for how to improve current figures (Sinestro and Captain Cold) and how to add the missing ones (Toyman, Riddler in spandex, and Bizarro in a classic style) kept forming, but I knew I would never get around to making it happen. So I did what I will probably do from now on – I recruited a dream team of customizers from AFP and the Fwoosh – Buzzy Fret, Ibentmyman-thing, and Robokillah.
At some point late tonight or tomorrow, Casimir at Raving Toy Maniac is going to publish the final day of CustomCon 25, and my meager entry, called Dangerous Deities, will get posted. I promised Casimir that I would have this recipe page up by the time that came around, but since I’m not quite sure when he’ll push the button, this is going up at Midnight CST.
First off I have to give Ron props. I loved his CustomCon 24 DC Universe Classics Earth 2 Customs and they (especially the Robin and Batman) were a big part of the inspiration for making this G.D. Batman. If you haven’t seen them, definitely check ’em out.
