DC Collectibles Crime Syndicate Takes the Sting off of Losing Club Infinite Earths

When DC Collectibles put up the solicits for their Crime Syndicate figures, a few things weren’t clear. First, they only partially revealed Ultraman, Superwoman, and Power Ring, so knowing that three more characters in Owlman, Johnny Quick, and Atomica are coming is pretty cool, seeing as how we’ll be getting the big hitters in a couple of months.

Second, Atomica? It wasn’t clear from the solicits that this was a New 52 Crime Syndicate, but seeing as how everything is New 52 these days, I shouldn’t have been surprised. The designs are fairly similar to those from the Morrison / Quitely JLA: Earth 2 run, so I don’t have the automatic “I hate New 52 designs” that normally crop up.

But the big thing for me here is the articulation setup. Aside from Atomica, who looks like a slug pack-in for Johnny Quick, the guys have 25 POA while Superwoman loses the ab swivel for 24. With DC Universe Classics on the back burner in 2014, these new super-articulated figures could satisfy my DC fix. I hope these fly off the shelves and convince DC Collectibles to make this the standard – the rest of the New 52 figures coming are much less articulated than these guys.

The Crime Syndicate is Coming to DC Collectibles…

…so you might want to get caught up on who they are.

An anonymous source over here at DC Collectibles managed to get a hold of this highly classified dossier that breaks down the key members of the Crime Syndicate, who can currently be seen causing all manner of mayhem in this week’s FOREVER EVIL #1. Whether this is your first run-in with the Syndicate or if you’ve tangled with these dark dopplegangers before, this file should be considered required reading before you let these very shady characters into your homes (and collections!).

Look for the new Crime Syndicate action figures to make their way to your favorite comic book and specialty stores in February and March, 2014. Or you shop for them online at Amazon or at www.shopdccollectibles.com.

DC Collectibles Exclusives from SDCC 2013 and More on Sale at Graphitti Designs

DC Collectibles let us know that some of its exclusives from San Diego Comic-Con are on sale now at Graphitti Designs. I checked it out and found not only the SDCC exclusives like the Green Lantern 3.75-inch 4-pack, but the Guy Gardner / Larfleeze 2-pack that was from WonderCon and C2E2, and the John Stewart / Atrocitus 2-pack from last year’s New York Comic Con.

Graphitti uses a two step approach for its exclusives at the shows. First you wait in a line, usually somewhere off the main floor, to draw a random ticket from a bag, just for a wristband. You can re-line up if you don’t get pull the right color ticket, but it generally takes a few tries and that eats up a lot of time. Once you have a wristband, you can go wait in line at the Graphitti booth – but there’s usually a line of people just buying regular stuff like their t-shirts. It’s nice to know there’s usually exclusives left-over that you can get online, because even with shipping it’s a lot better than wasting time in line during the shows.

The Dark Knight Returns: Stone Cold – BillsComics.com

Bill has shared his latest comic, The Dark Knight Returns: Stone Cold. It’s Batman versus Mr. Freeze, set during the Dark Knight Returns era. (I guess “Old Man Bruce” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.) Be sure to check out more of his comics at Bill’s Comics.

DC Collectibles Solicits Reveal the Crime Syndicate and New 52 Versions of Captain Marvel and the Suicide Squad

The New 52 continues to dominate the action figure line-ups in the latest solicitations from DC Collectibles. First up is Shazam! aka Captain Marvel, coming in December. Interestingly enough, Mattel released the New 52 Shazam as one of its San Diego Comic-Con exclusives. Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and Captain Boomerang of the Suicide Squad follow in February.

Also in February, Ultraman, Superwoman, and Power Ring are on tap. DCC also teases “and more” – could we get a complete Crime Syndicate in one shot? I’m a big fan of the Crime Syndicate and would be curious to see the whole set of them. I’m not familiar with the David Finch designs for this Justice League analogue.

DC Collectibles Solicits for October Reveals Odd but Cheap Man of Steel Superman

I know that DC Collectibles tends to favor sculpt over articulation, but this Man of Steel Superman revealed in their solicits for October doesn’t really have either. It’s got two points of articulation – swivels in both arms to allow for a flying pose, I guess. But at 3.5 inches, there’s not the beautiful detail in the sculpt that we’re accustomed to.

At $5, this should hit a different market than normal for DCD, but I’d have liked a 3.75-inch figure like they’re putting out for their con exclusive Green Lanterns. To top it off, attributing the sculpt to Gentle Giant seems a bit incongruous for this kind of offering. What do you think?
