Back to School Progressive Sale Through 9/30 – TFAW.com

Starting this Labor Day weekend, Things From Another World is holding a progressive sale. This week, the discount on sales items, including action figures, is 40%. Each week through the end of the month, the discount increases to top off at 70% off. In toys, there’s over 300 items on the sales list, including DC Direct Blackest Night, DC Universe Classics, Marvel Select, Marvel Universe, Halo, Star Trek, and much, much more. The real trick is how long to wait – do you want to hold out for a bigger discount and risk the item selling out?

Here’s some of the action figures I saw in the sale:

Limited Number of DC Direct San Diego Comic-Con Exclusives Available at Graphitti Designs

Graphitti Designs has a few of the SDCC DC Direct exclusives in stock at their original prices. So if you’ve been looking at the aftermarket, try here first. If I get really motivated, I might pick up a Batman to try to replicate the super-articulated Arkham Asylum Batman custom that Prodigy put together.

After the Con was over, we found ourselves with a very limited quantity of these cool (and desirable) figures remaining. Here’s your chance to purchase some of these figures at the original $20.00 SRP.

In order to get these into the hands of as many different people as possible, sales are limited to two (2) each of each of the remaining figures.

DC Direct September Solicitations

Looks like DC Direct will leverage the year-long Brightest Day event in the comics in its action figure line-ups. Blackest Night produced eight series of figures – with these previews, Brightest Day is on its second series, due in comic book stores in April next year. I think we’ll see some pretty interesting character choices if we get to eight or more series in this line, and I’m really liking what we’ve seen thus far.

Remembering Eddie Wires – TheFwoosh.com

I was very sad to hear about the passing of Eddie Wires earlier this week. The staff of the Fwoosh put together a small article with our remembrances of Eddie. Some of us had just seen him a few weeks back, during San Diego Comic-Con. Eddie – we’ll miss you.

If you’re an action figure fan, chances are you’ve got a toy on your shelf that Eddie Wires helped create. Some of you probably have shelves full of toys Eddie had a hand in. After Eddie was done painting a prototype, that figure was the best it would ever look and the best it would ever be. That’s because no factory production process could ever hope to match what he created by hand.

I wasn’t lucky enough to spend a lot of time with Eddie, but it seemed to me that he had the same effect on the people around him as he did on the toys he created – life was better when he was there. Always friendly, always smiling, and it was certainly infectious.

If you look through his body of work (see his online portfolio or his Facebook albums), like I do from time to time, you’ll be reminded of what might have been in the world of toys. With him gone, I’ll ask myself that every time I see a painted prototype, and every time I’m outside on the balcony at Jolt’n Joes.
