DC Direct July Solicitations – Arkham Asylum Series 2

BMAA.GROUP.jpg

DC Direct just announced their Batman: Arkham Asylum line last month, but they’re immediately back again with series 2, due out in February next year. Series 2 adds fan favorite villains Poison Ivy, Victor Zsasz, and Bane, as well as the armored-suited Batman from the Arkham Asylum Challenges.

That’s not all. DC Direct is also introducing an All-Star Superman figure set with a new Bizarro, as well as a bunch of busts and statues.

DC Direct Announces Return of Bruce Wayne Figures

The second issue of the Return of Bruce Wayne hit shelves today, and DC Direct took the opportunity to announce a line of action figures to go with the mini-series. I should know better than to doubt Grant Morrison – the first two issues have been a fun read, and the hook that Darkseid has booby-trapped Bruce to destroy the Earth *if* he makes it back to his own time makes it even more compelling.

Well, how about a first look at DC DIRECT’s RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE action figures?

The first wave will hit in April of next year, and features four different versions of our time lost hero, based on the designs of cover artist Andy Kubert.

The figures include:

  • Prehistoric Batman
  • Witch-hunter Batman
  • Wild West Batman
  • High Seas Batman

DC Direct June Solicitations

It’s a big day for action figures from DC – earlier, we had Mattel reveal wave 15 from DC Universe Classics, and here, DC Direct is revealing its action figure line for Batman: Arkham Asylum. Wow! It’s going to be a long wait until January.

BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM SERIES 1 ACTION FIGURES

It’s a madhouse … and the lunatics are running the asylum!

After arriving on Arkham Island, Batman is greeted by Warden Sharp and security personnel. Although The Joker is securely strapped to a handcart for transfer to the deepest bowels of Arkham, he escapes nonetheless. This is going to be the worst night of Batman’s life. With The Joker free, inciting unrest among the inmates, Batman faces a riot from a cadre of Gotham City’s most wanted: killers and psychopaths who are screaming for vengeance and out for blood. Batman’s blood. His mission? Stop The Joker – and his accomplices – at all costs.

Welcome to the asylum. Arkham Asylum.

DC Direct Blackest Night Behind the Scenes

If you picked up the Blackest Night #1 Director’s Cut this week, you were treated to a host of extras for the issue, like the issue’s script, character concept art, and this brief behind the scenes look at how DC Direct produced its Blackest Night Hal Jordan figure.

It’s very cool to see the process that takes a character from 2-dimensional reference art, through various stages of sculpting, and finally to the painted prototype stage.  Series 4 of the Blackest Night line is on shelves now, and Series 7 and 8, due in November and December, were just announced.

If DC Direct follows this up with a compatible Brightest Day series, it could rival the longevity of the Ed McGuinness and Alex Ross lines.

Two more Blackest Night series? This is the comic event that keeps on giving, toy-wise. I can hear the the DC collectors being torn apart. First, you’ve got Mera, who makes her first appearance in plastic form, but as a Red Lantern?! Outrage!!!

But with her, Dex-Starr? We love you again, DC Direct!
