DC Direct's Batman: Black and White Statue for Batman: Arkham Asylum

Fans of the Batman: Arkham Asylum video game have been clamoring for action figures, and DC Direct is stepping up to the plate. According to Previews, Toyfare #156, on newsstands on June 9, will reveal DC Direct’s upcoming line of Arkham Asylum toys.

At DC Direct’s show room at Toy Fair (the event in January, not the magazine), Jim Fletcher told us that they used the 3D materials from Rocksteady to produce their Arkham Asylum Bats in their Black and White statue line. So I’m confident that the figures will be look great – I’m just wondering how much articulation they’ll put into the figures. I hope it has as much as the awesome Arkham Asylum Batman custom by DoubleDealer.

WonderCon 2010

WonderCon 2010 - Cosplay 1 (1200x900).jpg

To be completely honest, I wasn’t even going to bring my camera to WonderCon at first. My wife and I were only going to be able to go for a few hours one afternoon, and although WonderCon is organized by the same folks who handle San Diego Comic-Con, it doesn’t attract the the toy manufacturers like SDCC does. As we were getting ready to walk out the door, I thought, why not?

DC Direct WonderCon 2010 Exclusive Hal Jordan and Sinestro

DCD WonderCon Exclusive Hal Jordan and Sinestro - Package 2 (1200x902).jpg

When I found about this WonderCon exclusive pair of Blackest Night figures from DC Direct and Graphitti Designs, it reminded me of last year’s San Diego Comic-Con exclusive 5-pack of rainbow-colored Hal Jordans. I did not brave the reportedly horrific lines then – each figure was sold on a different day, and you had to line up in the registration area for a chance to win the right to buy the figure that day.

For the Black Lantern Hal Jordan and White Lantern Sinestro at WonderCon, you still had to line up in the registration area, but if you were lucky, you’d get the chance to buy both figures in one shot. Since I live near San Francisco, the site of WonderCon, I figured I’d take a shot.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank my wife. She came to WonderCon with me, braved the ticket line 6 times, and finally drew the red ticket that let me buy this set. I feel for the folks who endured the pain of this at San Diego last year. If you worked for that set of five Hals, you really earned it.

WonderCon Exclusive DC Direct Hal Jordan and Sinestro from Graphitti Designs

Do you remember the “Rainbow” Hal Jordan set from last year’s San Diego Comic-Con? It was a DC Direct exclusive set of five Hal Jordans, sold at SDCC by Graphitti Designs. At WonderCon (this weekend), they’ll have a new set, this time with Hal as a Black Lantern and Sinestro as the White Lantern – sorry for the spoiler!

At SDCC, the sale was somewhat of a nightmare, because you had to wait in line each day, often multiple times a day, because only a single new figure was offered on each day. You had to be a lucky bastard and put in the work to reap the rewards. At least with this set of two figures, you can pick both up in one shot.
