DC Heroclix Blackest Night Mera and Hal Jordan

A couple of weeks ago I saw some Marvel Heroclix at Toys R Us – these were the first Heroclix toys I’ve seen at retail since NECA acquired WizKids and the Heroclix licenses, and it was good to see some new stuff.  But the announcement of a Blackest Night Starter Kit  promises some great things to come.  They’ll be announcing figures all week, and the reveal of Mera as a Red Lantern is sure to generate some rage in the collector community.

I’m not a collector of these, but I do appreciate the level of detail that NECA is achieving with these now – this starter kit will feature figures sculpted digitally, with great results.

Rage

DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game previews continue with Mera!

Queen of Atlantis and wife to Aquaman, Mera rallied her people in the wake of a planetwide crisis and became the leader of a rebel army determined to take vengeance for the destruction of Atlantis and the death of Aquaman. After the battle was won, she agreed to have the body of Aquaman moved to Atlantis…only to find he had risen from the grave as a Black Lantern. The desecration of the man she loved ignited a new fury in Mera, leading her to the front lines of the battle against the Black Lanterns and the Blackest Night…and earning her a place in the rage-powered Red Lantern Corps!

The DC HeroClix Blackest Night Starter Game will be in comic and hobby stores on May 12, 2010. The Starter Game includes everything you need to play HeroClix: seven HeroClix figures, the 2010 HeroClix Rulebook, a map (The Oan Sciencells) and more – reserve your copy at your local retailer!

First Look – Walmart Exclusive DC Universe Classics 2-Packs – ToyNewsI.com

TNI has posted several pictures of the upcoming Walmart exclusive 2-packs featuring Aquaman / Black Manta and Batman / Robin, all with new paint decos. I like that they’re reissuing the hard-to-find Aquaman, and with a very cool metallic set of scales. And fans of the Super Friends will get a Black Manta in the blue color scheme from the cartoon.

I’m not too keen on the Batman and Robin set. We’ve had too many Batmen using the original Detective Batman body (yes it’s the Public Enemies belt, but the glove and boot ridges give it away, plus the already smallish head would be even more pinheaded). And the Tim Drake red and green Robin costume has so many details that are off because Mattel used the unmodified original sculpt.  I understand the need to reuse, but I think this set needed a little more to make it worthwhile to collectors.

Superman Batman Public Enemies Wave 2 – Now With 100% More Batman!

but a lot less Superman…

Hate to stick another thorn in Ron’s jealous hide but a week of daily visits to Target here in Gainesville, FL has paid off this morning! I passed on the metallic Superman redux as I had already gotten the Brimstone part that came with him from fellow NE FL Fwoosher Superdoug and I just don’t need another Superman…

AFP Ask Matty Round-Up for 1/29/10

The guys are back with what might be the last Mattel Q&A before Toy Fair.  Thanks to Toy Guru and Manic Mike!

1. We’ve heard of a lot of collectors getting the DC Universe Classics wave 11 Deadman variant in their shipments from online retailers, including MattyCollector.com (who had said that was the only figure not included in their sets). Were the production ratios off?

This was an error in fans’ favor. Going forward the chase version in each wave will be only at retail and not in the MattyCollector.com sets.

Superman Batman Public Enemies Wave 2

Here are some pictures and quick thoughts from Fwoosher Studmuffin. We both live in the San Francisco Bay Area, but he manages to find everything and I just get to be jealous. 😀

The second assortment of the Public Enemies’ series came as a total surprise. The truth is, I wasn’t expecting much and really was only interested in finally being able to build the elusive Apokoliptian instrument of mass destruction, Brimstone.
