Video Preview Man of Steel Superman vs. General Zod

In other Man of Steel toy news, I missed this video preview from Mattel on the Man of Steel 2-pack featuring angry Superman vs Zod. I had guessed when Mattel first revealed the heat vision feature for Superman that the packaging would have an LED pointed at Superman’s head. I was wrong – the Superman figure has a button on his back that activates lights in his head.

While the button is not that intrusive, it wasn’t clear to me from the video if the light-up feature means that there’s no point of articulation for Supes’ head.

DC Collectibles Solicits for October Reveals Odd but Cheap Man of Steel Superman

I know that DC Collectibles tends to favor sculpt over articulation, but this Man of Steel Superman revealed in their solicits for October doesn’t really have either. It’s got two points of articulation – swivels in both arms to allow for a flying pose, I guess. But at 3.5 inches, there’s not the beautiful detail in the sculpt that we’re accustomed to.

At $5, this should hit a different market than normal for DCD, but I’d have liked a 3.75-inch figure like they’re putting out for their con exclusive Green Lanterns. To top it off, attributing the sculpt to Gentle Giant seems a bit incongruous for this kind of offering. What do you think?

Watch Mattel’s Video Preview of the SDCC Exclusive Batusi Batman

Video Preview Batusi Batman

MattyCollector’s Toy Guru has posted a video preview of the San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Batusi Batman from the Classic TV Series. Once again they’ve got some pretty clever packaging that allows for Bats to dance with his fellow party-goers. An electronic sound chip plays the Batusi theme.

The action feature comes with some drawbacks, though – one is a relatively small lever in Batman’s back, but the big one is that it appears that his arms could be locked in the Batusi pose. I’m still on the fence for the series, but this probably means I’ll go for one of the Batmen available for pre-order on Amazon.

Buy this Green Lantern Hal Jordan Even If You Hated the Movie

Green Lantern Movie Masters Maskless Hal Jordan Figure 1 Green Lantern Movie Masters Maskless Hal Jordan Figure 2 Green Lantern Movie Masters Maskless Hal Jordan Figure 3 Green Lantern Movie Masters Maskless Hal Jordan Figure 4

While we’re on the subject of comic book superhero movies, I wanted a whole lot more out of DC’s Green Lantern. The movie was responsible for a lot of this, but I guess I could say the same about the Green Lantern Movie Masters action figure line from Mattel. While I haven’t collected that line, I will probably pick up the GL Movie Masters Maskless Hal Jordan from Amazon – Prime prices start under $12 from a number of sellers.

I think it’s a decent representation of the Ryan Reynolds GL from the movie – but on top of that, it’s got some great extras. First, you get Bzzd, the diminutive GL that first appeared in a Justice League of America comic way back when and then featured prominently with the GL Corps during the Sinestro Corps War just a couple years ago. Bzzd will fit in great with your DC Universe Classics Green Lantern Corps if you don’t have a movie GL Corps. And then you get the Power Ring from the movie, which at size 11 will fit most adult hands.

If I could rewrite movie history, I’d switch out Green Lantern with Deadpool for Ryan Reynolds’ filmography – maybe some enterprising customizer can take this figure and make a Deadpool out of it.
