The Caped Crusader (a Batman stand-in with an uncanny resemblance to a 1960’s Adam West) and his trusted Batmobile were on hand at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! in New York City’s Times Square to promote the launch of its new Mez-Itz line for the 1966 Batman Classic TV Series. Last fall, we saw Play Imaginative release an exclusive “special edition” 1/6 scale, diecast Batman at the Singapore Toy, Game, and Comic Convention. While the STGCC version of the Jim Lee-styled New 52 Batman has a glossy version, eventually specialty retailers like BigBadToyStore imported a matte version of the figure.
Now, with a New 52 Superman in the works, Play Imaginative is re-releasing an “event exclusive” edition of Batman. This looks to have the original glossy finish, all the accessories of the other versions, and an extra, angry head sculpt. The packaging looks to be identical to the special edition with the exception of a new special edition sticker. No word on cost yet, but I’ll see if I can find out.

When Mattel announced the DC Universe Man of Steel Movie Masters 2-pack, they just had a single picture of the front of the package. Now they’ve provided additional (albeit small) images that show the back of the package, how the diorama is set up inside and out of the packaging, and a shot simulating how the heat vision will be realized. I’m a little suspect on the last part – I imagine this will be achieved with a small red LED aimed at Superman’s face, but I doubt the lighting can be so specific as it’s shown.
I thought maybe there’d be some battle damage to distinguish the figures from their retail counterparts, but the only differences I saw are that Superman will come with an “angry” head sculpt and a fabric cape instead of a plastic one. This 2-pack will be $50 at San Diego Comic-Con, and will be available on MattyCollector.com on August 5th.
With the June MattyCollector sale, it’s the calm before the San Diego Comic-Con storm. Octavia is a Horde member from She-Ra Princess of Power, so even though I like how the figure turned out, I suspect she’ll have a smaller following. And judging from many of the comments I’ve seen, this version of Red Hood is not a highly sought after one. It’s Jason Todd from the second arc in Morrison’s Batman and Robin, and he changed costumes right after that. A lot of people clamored for a jacketed version, and others would have preferred a more classic Joker Red Hood. From the rehashes, only Man-At-Arms remains from Early Access; Spikor sold out.
Today marks the official opening of the subscriptions for 2013 for Club Eternia and Club Infinite Earths. The new flight stands are up for sale today too – they are two to a pack.
