ToyFare #155: In stores now!

Get thee to the comic shop! ToyFare #155 is out today, and inside its pages you’ll find:

  • A look at Hasbro’s sure-to-be-hot San Diego Comic-Con exclusives: not only our cover boys Ultimate WWII Captain America and Ages of Thunder Thor (which are awesome), but the world premiere of a never-before-seen exclusive! Hint: World’s Biggest Blister Card.
  • An interview with Avengers group editor Tom Brevoort on all things Avengers in this new Heroic Age of Marvel Comics, and his own youth as a proto-toy customizer.
  • Our other cover boy, Jonah Hex from NECA, kicks off our look at the rest of this summer’s coolest movies, now that Iron Man has come. From Expendables to Scott Pilgrim, there’s no way this summer is not going to kick ass.
  • Speaking of Jonah, what are the greatest cowboy toys? And how many of them were random cowboys slapped down into a non-cowboy-related ’80s line?
  • In Twisted ToyFare Theatre, the Manly Men of Action wrap up their Avatar-esque war against James Cameron and his Na’vi in “Lights, Cameron, Action!” Part 2!
  • All this, plus a look amazing SDCC exclusives from Mattel, Sideshow and DST, awesome new UFC figures from Jakks, Big Shots, Market Watch and more!

Oh, and if you haven’t caught up with Battlestar by now, there’s a major spoiler on page 39. Beware! Just a public service announcement from your friendly friends at ToyFare!

Marvel Select Thing Packaged Pics

It’s a matter of personal preference, but I don’t think of the Fantastic Four’s Thing as massive in the same was as I do the Hulk or the Abomination. I’d prefer it if he were no taller than Mr. Fantastic, but still pretty broad.

That said, I think the upcoming Marvel Select figure has got the best sculpt for an action figure of the Thing that I’ve ever seen. The last shipping update we got from Diamond Select Toys didn’t include a date for the Thing, but some sites have him listed as coming out in early May.

It’s Marvel Select CLOBBERIN’ TIME!

Next installment of our Marvel Select…The THING!!!

And let me tell you… this packaging…it’s really freakin’ heavy.

It’s like he’s made of rocks or something…

Marvel Select Magneto Prototype Pics

Here’s a couple of protoype pics, unpainted and painted,  from the Art Asylum blog of the upcoming Marvel Select Magneto. I first saw this figure at Toy Fair – he’ll come with both interchangeable heads, with and without his helmet.

Because He’s EVIL

Really, it explains everything about this newest addition to the Marvel Select line.  Why does he look like he’s about to destroy everyone? Why is he standing over the wreckage of the X-Mansion?  Why does he have such an angry look?  Why is his back turned when clearly someone is trapped in the rubble?  The answer to all of these questions is “Because he’s EVIL”  Well, truth be told, the whole arm-of-Colossus thing on the base is because yours truly is a little whcked in the head and felt like having some sick fun with the fans (I guess this means I’ll have to do a Colossus Select figure as a future make-good, huh?).  The Master of Magnetism is sculpted by Gabriel Marquez and painted by Ed Wires.
