While Jedd was at the Play Imaginative booth at STGCC, he also sent us pics of their Super Alloy DC New 52 Justice League 1/6 scale figures. I am pretty excited for this line, because there really hasn’t been much in the 1/6 scale for comic book figures on the DC side of things. Back when DC Direct (now DC Collectibles) had their 13-inch line going, I wasn’t that interested in the scale – but even in hindsight those were probably on the large side and not as exciting as these super-poseable figures.

The new addition for this show is the New 52 Batman – you could argue that the Jim Lee version is also New 52, but I guess Play Imaginative is taking a page out of the Hot Toys playbook in terms of re-releasing characters with updates. The new body is probably an improvement over the original in terms of articulation scheme, but I’m thinking the head is a little on the dull side. Batman joins Superman, Green Lantern, Cyborg, and Flash (not pictured) in the current Justice League line-up.

STGCC 2013 Play Imaginative Iron Man 4

Jedd has sent in an update from the Singapore Toy, Game, and Comic Convention – he’s visited the Play Imaginative booth and shared this report on the Super Alloy Iron Man diecast line. I’m really amazed that PI is so aggressively targeting the Marvel brand that’s been Hot Toys’ bread and butter for the past few years. Jedd writes:

Play Imaginative trucked out an incredible display of practically every Iron Man armour that has been in the movies, in six inch scale (just prototypes at this point, there are no plans to release every last one). There were also figures in 12 inch scale and 18 inch scale, with a central display of an 18 inch scale Hall of Armour. The Mark VII figure comes with several heads, and what is interesting is that one of them is Pepper in the helmet; Gwyneth Paltrow’s likeness.

STGCC 2013: Preview Pics of Play Imaginative, Hot Toys, and Transformers by Jedd

STGCC 2013 Preview 1

Our good friend Jedd was at the Singapore Toy, Game, and Comic Convention for their preview day, and sent in these pictures. He writes in:

Today was preview day for STGCC and I managed to get some pictures. I have a couple of pictures of Play Imaginative’s Iron Man stuff, including the 6 inch scale Hammer drones. The Hot Toys Exclusives at the convention are: Joe Colton from GI JOE Retaliation, The Iron Man “Midas” Armour, Evil Superman from Superman III, and “Star-Spangled Man” Captain America. There’s also a Metroplex Transformer that is being brought in by The Falcon’s Hangar store.

Thanks a bunch, Jedd!

Play Imaginative Shares Iron Man Super Alloy Preview from STGCC

While we’re talking about the Super Alloy Iron Man figures, Play Imaginative has shared a preview of some of their figures that will be on display this weekend at the Singapore Toy, Games, and Comic Convention. In addition to the quarter scale Mark II War Machine, they’ll also have the quarter scale sub-orbital Mark 39 Gemini, which they’re calling the Starboost. It’s an interesting choice, because Hot Toys has shown their 1/6 scale Gemini but not yet made it available for pre-order.

Then there’s the 1/12 scale Hammer Drones from Iron Man 2, which are being shown for the first time at the show.

Super Alloy 1/4 Scale War Machine Mark 2 (Exclusive Edition) Available for Pre-Order

Play Imaginative Super Alloy Quarter Scale War Machine 1

The quarter scale Super Alloy War Machine Mark II is available for pre-order from YesAnime – they are the US distributor for Play Imaginative. For an armor that was cut out from Iron Man 3 (it had been planned for in an early draft of the movie), it sure has generated a lot of action figures. In addition to Play Imaginative’s War Marchines in 1/6 and 1/12, we’ve also seen upcoming figures of War Machine from Hasbro, Diamond Select Toys, and Hot Toys.

The price tag for this figure is $609.99, which puts it way out of my range, but I’m really interested in what Play Imaginative can achieve in this scale. It’s got over 50 points of articulation, LED lights (with a remote control for them), and even a microfiber cleaning cloth to wipe off fingerprints off of the over 80% of diecast parts. The exclusive edition comes with an alternate head featuring Don Cheadle’s likeness. Impressive.
