AFP Free Stuff Giveaway: Warpo Legends of Cthulhu Kickstarter Exclusives

I’m a big fan of independent toy makers, so when Talyn discovered Warpo Toys and their Legends of Cthulhu Kickstarter campaign, I became a backer – there was no way to withhold my support of the H.P. Lovecraft creation that has inspired so much of the pop culture I love today. If Lovecraft, Cthulhu, or retro toys hit any of your buttons… well, the Legends of Cthulhu Kickstarter closed in July.

But don’t you fret – our pals at Warpo are helping us give you a shot at the most exclusive figures from the Kickstarter campaign – the ones unlocked exclusively to backers when the campaign met its stretch goals! For the rest of the figures, The Professor, The Cultist, The Deep One, and Spawn of Cthulhu, you’ll just have to wait until Warpo announces where you can get them.

NYCC 2014: Hasbro Shares Press Pics from ‘Twas the Night Before Party

Marvel Infinite Series Wave 2

The mood lighting at Hasbro’s ‘Twas the Night Before (New York Comic Con) party was great for getting us in a festive mood, but is hell on the smart phone I have convinced myself is better than lugging around a few pounds of camera gear. (How’d I do? Check out my own pics from the event.) But Hasbro planned ahead, sharing press pics of pretty much all the reveals from this evening’s soiree.

And of course, we’re sharing them with you. We’ve got the official pics from Marvel, Star Wars, Transformers, KRE-O, and the latest of the Angry Birds mash-ups – Angry Birds Transformers. Enjoy!

Weekend Toy Run: Sideshow Collectibles 1/6 Scale Deadpool

100178-deadpool-017

One of the highlights from this year’s San Diego Comic-Con was the revelation that Sideshow Collectibles had acquired the license for comics-based Marvel figures in 1/6 scale. This is the first time in a long time that one toy company has been able to produce figures from the big two from the comics – sure, Hot Toys, of whom I’m a big fan, has had Marvel and DC for a long time, but that’s the movie stuff. I’m psyched for some compatible, universe-crossing comic book action.

And they’re starting with one of my favorites from the Marvel U – Deadpool. The Merc with a Mouth comes with all the accouterments that you’re accustomed to if you’re a fan of Sideshow’s DC, G.I. JOE, or Star Wars figures – the great sculpt, nicely detailed fabric apps, and weapons and accessories up the ying yang. But they’ve given Wade Wilson a little extra, given his penchant for cracking wise – Deadpool speech bubbles that you can add to your display via the included stand. The Sideshow exclusive version of Deadpool will also include Headpool, who will use his copter helmet to fly by Deadpool’s side (presumably using the same wires that support the speech bubbles).

Now it’s fighty time!

Club Eternia Last Chance Pays Off – Mattel Hits Subscription Target for 2015

After a tense weekend, Club Eternia hit its subscription target for 2015. Anyone at all surprised? 😀

Congratulations to Mattel, the Four Horsemen, and the rest of the crew behind the scenes!

GrayskullPR_newsPageMOTUC 2015 Club Eternia®: You Did It!

Yes, you do have the power! The fans have spoken, and it’s official… we’ve reached our subscription goal for the final Club Eternia®! That means we’ll be seeing Lizard Man, Ninja Warrior, Huntara™, club-exclusive Oo-Larr®, and the rest of the lineup for 2015.

It’s been an amazing journey for the Masters of the Universe® Classics line, starting in 2008 with King Grayskull™ at San Diego Comic-Con, followed by He-Man®, Beast Man®, Skeletor®, and all the others leading up to this final year. We can’t wait to get started on 2015, when we’ll wrap up the vintage and A-list characters and the “Fall of Eternia” mini comic storyline. We thank each and every one of you who subscribed and made it possible. We’ll have more news about the rest of the lineup in the months ahead, so make sure you sign up to get email updates!

Soapbox Sunday: Mattycollector to Close Doors after 2015?

To be frank, I haven’t been paying much attention to the Mattycollector subscription drive this year. Last year, I did a fair bit of agonizing over Club Eternia before re-upping very late in the game. Sure, I chuckled a bit and wondered what was behind Mattel’s announcement that they would *limit* subscriptions for 2015 – but I still waited to see Mattel’s 1st quarter selections for Club Eternia, then subscribed without much further thought.

So it was somewhat of a surprise to see the subscription drama starting to unfold just like it did last year – with an impassioned plea from Toy Guru followed by a confirmation from the Four Horsemen along the lines of “hey, this isn’t a marketing ploy – it’s real.” To state the obvious, this is not good news for Mattycollector. And it begs the question if the collector-oriented site will follow Masters of the Universe Classics into the sunset after 2015.
