Weekend Toy Run: Marvel Legends Jubilee X-Men Wave (Stryfe, Cyclops, and Wolverine) at ToysRUs.com

I’ve been on the road this week, but our good pal Paul wrote in with the heads up that part of the Jubilee wave of Marvel Legends, which is exclusive to Toys R Us and Previews, is showing up online. You can pick up Stryfe, Cyclops, and Wolverine for $21.99 each – get all three and you trigger the free shipping deal for orders over $49.

We’ll keep our eyes open for Storm and Magneto. Happy shopping!

Are You Seeing the Guardians of the Galaxy this Weekend?

Marvel Legends Drax Rocket Raccoon Star-Lord

Although there were some “preview” showings last night, Guardians of the Galaxy officially opened today. I purposely tried to avoid as much info on the movie before seeing it, but even so, the marketing machine of Disney / Marvel was so effective that I was worried I was over-hyped for it. Well, that worry was all for naught – we saw a showing in 3D earlier today, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has all the fun of the first Iron Man movie, but with a much bigger heart.

Now, it’s the long wait, for the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, which Marvel announced for July 2017… and also the action figures! Sure, Hasbro has Marvel Legends figures for the movie Guardians – you’ll have a tough time finding a full set in stores or even on Amazon, but you can get a full case of Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy at Entertainment Earth (all figures including doubles of Iron Man and Star-Lord) or pre-order a complete set of all six at BigBadToyStore. As for me, I’m getting the Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy figures – Sideshow has exclusive versions of Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Star-Lord up for pre-order, but those won’t arrive until March next year.

Hot Toys Reveals Guardians of the Galaxy Star-Lord… Who?

Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy Star-Lord 01

OK, you got me – Marvel’s marketing juggernaut has made sure we all know who Star-Lord is. And since Guardians of the Galaxy is opening tomorrow, it’s about time I posted Hot Toys’ reveal of their Star-Lord figure – at least most of it. Hot Toys has blurred out the Peter Quill / Chris Pratt head sculpt, indicating there’s further work to be done on it, but we saw Star-Lord and the rest of the Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy at San Diego Comic-Con. What a bunch of a-holes.

Even though my wife will hate me for it, flark it, I’ve got to have them all. The Hot Toys Star-Lord is up for pre-order at Sideshow Collectibles, and they’ll include the exclusive Orb and handcuff accessories. And while you’re there, don’t miss out on the Rocket Raccoon and Groot set, which includes the angry Groot head sculpt. I AM GROOT!

SDCC 2014: Mattel: Mattypalooza 2014 – Video

SDCC 2014 Masters of the Universe Classics He-Man Hsss Robots

From San Diego Comic-Con this past Friday, here’s our video of the Mattel’s Mattypalooza panel. The panel was understandably a bit light on the DC and Ghostbuster properties – DC Universe Classics is wrapping up this year with the Conner Kent Superboy, Damian Wayne Robin, and the Super Powers 6-figure line-up, and Ghostbusters has an anemic offering of the four Ghostbusters with removable Proton Packs – they had these tooled up in anticipation of making the Ecto-1, which sadly didn’t hit the pre-order minimum last year.

Most of the panel was devoted to Masters of the Universe – the bulk of which was focused on the “last year” of Classics (including the Snake Armor He-Man / Battle Armor King Hsss two pack and Skeletor’s Hover Robot 3-pack shown above), but also included a portion on the “franchise” outside of toys, mostly comic books. For the action figures, Toy Guru was a bit enigmatic on what we’d see after 2015 – he did say in the panel that 2015 would be the wrap-up of the vintage line, but that 6-inch might continue, just in a different way. For his comments, you can skip to about 44 minutes into the video.

What is also uncertain is the future of Mattel’s long-term collaboration with the Four Horsemen after 2015. Was Cornboy hinting at a change during his sentimental intro? What do you guys think?

SDCC 2014: Mattel and WWE: Over-the-Top-Action! – Video

Here’s the first of a few videos of panels from San Diego Comic-Con. From Thursday morning, here’s the Mattel and WWE panel, featuring Michael Cole hosting Daniel Bryan, Paul Heyman, and the immortal Hulk Hogan!

Mattel’s WWE team takes us through upcoming action figure releases, including the first ever Hulk Hogan, Razor Ramon, and Doink the Clown in the Mattel era of WWE. But you can’t miss the Q&A section that includes special appearances from the “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart and Sting, introducing his first WWE action figure ever.
