Weekend Toy Run: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classic Movie Exclusive In Stock at Toys R Us

While we were busy at San Diego Comic-Con, our good friend Paul was keeping an eye out for online deals, and sent us this info. All four Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classic Collection figures from the original 1990 movie are in stock – they are exclusive to Toys R Us. Each is $19.99, and if you get all four you’ll trigger free shipping for orders over $49.

While these could use just a little more paint to give that turtle skin some spots and texture, that should be easy enough for anyone to do. I’m hoping that Leonardo’s expression won’t look so [add your descriptor here – mine is “constipated”] in hand. Thanks to Paul for the heads up!

SDCC 2014: Masters of the Universe Classics Starts 2015 Strong, But Future Uncertain

SDCC 2014 Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics 2015

Toy Guru made it clear when he kicked off their Mattypalooza presentation with a Masters of the Universe Classics video with the message that all toy lines must end (an homage to the Game of Thrones marketing campaign for the past season). I suppose that’s Mattel’s way to drive subscriptions for Club Eternia for 2015, now billed as the last year for MOTUC and Four Horseman figures.

And they certainly loaded up the sub with extra goodness in the first quarter of 2015, in case there are people still on the fence to subscribe. It’s fan favorite Lizard Man from the Filmation series, Ninjor from the vintage line, and Huntara from last year’s SDCC fan vote. The Club Eternia exclusive is Oo-larr, the He-Man from the original mini-comic – and to make this extra tempting, the exclusive will include an extra He-Man head sculpt in the vintage style.

You can see all this and more in our SDCC 2014 Masters of the Universe Classics album.

SDCC 2014: Hasbro Reveals Marvel Legends Avengers (Odin Build-a-Figure) Wave for 2015

SDCC 2014 Hasbro Marvel Legends Avengers 2015

As promised, the Hasbro Marvel team unveiled the Avengers wave that will join Marvel Legends in 2015. This wave finds a home for the Sentry variant originally planned for Hyperion back in 2013, and the fairly recent Thor that was part of the Jubilee wave before it went exclusive.

They are joined by a much welcomed update to Scarlet Witch (with this figure, I think Hasbro is out to make a point that they can do better than Toy Biz), Machine Man, and the Carol Danvers version of Captain Marvel. I’m glad to see both a masked and unmasked version of Carol for this figure – and it’s nice to see her getting a lot of love in the recent reveals. To round it out, there’s the build-a-figure Odin – by His beard, finally!

You can see the Marvel Legends Avengers 2015 wave in our Hasbro Marvel Legends album. I’ve also included a bunch more shots of the Marvel Legends that were already up during Preview Night.

SDCC 2014: Hot Toys Batman / Dark Knight

SDCC 2014 Hot Toys Dark Knight Bat Signal

I know what you were thinking – with Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy wrapped up, our wallets might get a break from Hot Toys Batman stuff. At least until Batman vs. Superman comes out, and because a lot of us hate the idea of Batfleck, maybe that break might go longer. Well, in a word… WRONG.

Hot Toys is making the most of the Dark Knight license adding multi-packs, including a Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth set, and a Robin, Commissioner Gordon, and Bat Signal (oddly called the “Batman Spotlight”) set. And, to top it off, we’re also getting a Batman from the Arkham City game from Hot Toys – because we need that character in every single scale known to action figure collectors.

I forgot to get pics of the Hot Toys Bank Robber Joker version 2, available at Sideshow as a summer “Toy Fairs” exclusive. I’ll go back tomorrow.

SDCC 2014: Four Horsemen Plan to Follow Gothitropolis Ravens with Mythic Legions Kickstarter

SDCC 2014 - Four Horsemen Studios

It’s been a long road traveled for the Four Horsemen’s highly successful Gothitropolis Ravens Kickstarter project, and the finish line is in sight. I talked to Cornboy at Preview Night, and although it was tough going, working with three separate factories to get through the pantographing to tooling to painted prototypes, but the 4H are very happy that the quality of the factory samples is meeting their exacting standards.
