Playmates TMNT Classic Rocksteady and Bebop packaged - 1

I’ve fallen so far behind on pics from my collection. Here’s a few quick shots of Rocksteady and Bebop from the Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Classic Collection. Sorry – they’re still packaged, even though I intend to open them. When you consider that Playmates went this route instead of the obvious Shredder / Foot Ninjas, it’s remarkable because these are two fully-tooled figures. Upon closer inspection, there were some cuts to make it more feasible – looks like there’s no hip swivels or ankle joints.

You can still pick up the TMNT Rocksteady and Bebop at ToysRUs.com – they’ve got the exclusive on these two figures. Despite the shortcomings with the leg articulation, if you’re a TMNT fan, I think they’re still must-haves.

ThreeA Toys Launches World of 3A Website with 3AA Exclusive Cornelius Tomorrow King

corny3aa corny

3A Toys has launched a new website, World of 3A. WO3A (for short) combines information about 3A’s toy lines, publishing, and news on one site. Their previous website had been built by a third party and was likely difficult to maintain, with the last updates coming at the end of 2012. For now, the 3A blog is still being updated but I imagine will be shuttered and replaced by the news section on WO3A.

To commemorate the launch, 3A is offering the “Cornelius” Tomorrow King exclusively to 3AA members on Bambaland, which remains a separate site but linked to from WO3A. Cornelius had previously been teased with a “NYCTFKC” label, leading me to think he would be made available somehow at New York Toy Fair. If that’s the case, it’s interesting to see that 3A remains as fluid and changing as ever.

This isn’t the first time 3A has made changes to its websites. They previously had to reboot the 3A Forum from scratch, losing the old site in the process – interestingly, the forums are hosted at the old domain and not linked to from WO3A – an oversight? They also tried to replace their online shop but reverted to Bambaland. I’m sure more changes are to come, and don’t mind, as long as 3A keeps making great toys.

Transformers Year of the Dragon Ultimate Optimus Prime Cyber Monday Deal at Amazon.com – $42.49 Until 2:20PM PST

It’s already the Year of the Snake, and soon will be the Year of the Horse (the next Chinese New Year is January 31, 2014, for those of you planning toy production at Chinese factories) – that might explain why Amazon has the Transformers Year of the Dragon Ultimate Optimus Prime as part of its Cyber Monday Deals Week. It’s discounted to $42.49 from a list price of  $89.99 until 2:20PM PST, or while supplies last.

I’m not a huge Transformers fan, so I hadn’t seen this humongous beast before – but apparently this repaint was an Asian exclusive that was available in 2012, naturally, since that was the Year of the Dragon. Gung hay fat choy! (That’s Happy New Year in Chinese, you heathens!)

Four Horsemen Explain Size Issues with Kickstarter Gothitropolis Ravens

Four Horsemen Kickstarter Gothitopolis Ravens Size Issue update 1 6 Four Horsemen Kickstarter Gothitopolis Ravens Size Issue update 2 2

The Four Horsemen have provided a couple of updates on the size issue they revealed when they shared pics of rough samples of their Kickstarter-funded Gothitropolis Ravens. Apparently, the cause was some lack of clarity on how the figures are intended to mimic actual bird anatomy. The Horsemen had provided height specifications for the figures based on how real birds stand – with legs bent. The factory produced the first samples with the legs fully extended – so when the legs were bent as intended, the size issue comes into play.

The good news is that the factory has already re-sized the figures. But the flip side is that some clean-up is required on the details on the new ones. The Ravens were originally estimated to be delivered in the March timeframe. There will almost certainly be some delay because of the size issue, but the Horsemen have not yet provided guidance on that. I’m happy to wait for a better quality product – I know they will deliver.
