Mattel Announces San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive Masters of the Universe Classics Rokkon & Stonedar 2-Pack

Mattel has started off their reveals of their SDCC 2013 exclusives with a bang – with fan favorites Rokkon and Stonedar in a Masters of the Universe Classics 2-pack. I think last year’s Vykron appealed to a subset of hardcore MOTU fans, since he and his Space and Tank alternate forms were never actual toy releases or featured in any of the animated shows. The Comet Warriors should have a broader appeal, despite their late appearance in the vintage Masters of the Universe line.

Mattel is revealing two exclusives a day this week (the second is a Hot Wheels Battlestar Galactica Cylon Raider), so I think we may see another MOTUC exclusive before the week is out.

Thundercats Ho! Minimates Box Set and Deals at Action Figure Xpress

Today we’ve got two updates from Diamond Select Toys via the Art Asylum site. First up, we’ve got a new Thundercats Minimates box set arriving this Fall. And if you need a fix for Thundercats now, I also came across some deals at ActionFigureXpress.

Thundercats Ho! - Box Set

Featuring “new” ThunderCats Bengali, Lynx-O, Pumyra and Ratar-O, as well as a non-poseable minifigure of the Berbil named Ro-Bear Bert, this box set is available to all comic shops and specialty store retailers through Diamond Comic Distributors’ Previews catalog. Now available for pre-order, the set will ship in the fall.

The three new ThunderCats in this set – blacksmith Bengali, healer Pumyra and wise, sightless Lynx-O – were introduced in the five-part 1985 movie ThunderCats Ho! as three Thunderans who came to Third Earth in the wake of Thundera’s destruction. Ro-Bear Bert was on of the two Berbils who saved the trio from the doomed planet, and Ratar-O was the Mutant commander who sought to capture them for the evil Mumm-Ra.

Sideshow Celebrates Iron Man 3 with Hot Toys Iron Man Mark II Giveaway and Life-Sized Mark XLII

Hot Toys Iron Man Mark II Armor Unleashed LIfe-Sized Iron Man Mark 42

Sideshow Collectibles is celebrating the Iron Man 3 movie with a Hot Toys giveaway and the launch of the life-sized Mark 42 (for those of you who are Roman numeral challenged) statue. On the Iron Man 3 celebration page you’ll be able to sign up for their mailing list, which will let you know when you can pre-order the exclusive Hot Toys battle-damaged Mark VII armor from the Avengers line. In addition, you’ll be able to sign up for their giveaway of the Hot Toys Iron Man Mark 2 Armor Unleashed version – you know, this is the Iron Man armor that the Skrull-that-looks-like-Don-Cheadle (who replaced Rhodey in the second movie) stole to give to the US military.

The life-sized Iron Man Mark XLII by Beast Kingdom turned out a little more expensive than I thought it would. I had used the life-sized T-800 endoskeleton, which costs a mere $5,999.99, as a comp. But the Iron Man statue is clocking in at $8,499.99 – for that price it ought to include the Iron Babe standing next to it (but it doesn’t.) I suppose I’ll add it to the “if I win the lottery” list.

Impulse Buy: Snake Eyes and Timber – Sideshow Exclusive Edition

I had been really considering picking up the Hot Toys Snake Eyes from G.I. JOE: Retaliation, but then Sideshow had to offer up a $20 off code, aptly called TAX20, for Tax Day. And while the Hot Toys Snake Eyes is available for pre-order and expected to ship next month, the Sideshow Snake Eyes is truer to the comics and vintage Joes, comes with Timber, and shipped today. I’ve become accustomed to pre-orders, waiting, and even forgetting something will eventually arrive at my door step – sometimes there’s nothing like a little instant gratification, right?

This version comes with both the commando goggles and the visor looks for Snake Eyes, and it’s also billed as a “Sideshow exclusive,” which comes with two different head sculpts for Timber. And while I still haven’t seen Retaliation, I suspect that the movie Snake Eyes doesn’t have a Timber watching his back, even in the sequel. As with all my impulse buys, I didn’t do a lot of thinking before I pulled the trigger, and now I’m left in a quandary over how to acquire the Sideshow version of Storm Shadow. So far I’ve looked on eBay, and it doesn’t look like it will come easy.

By the way, the TAX20 code is good through the end of today, 4/16, so stop by Sideshow Collectibles to see if there’s something you want to pick up for a little bit less than normal. Happy shopping!
