Four Horsemen Power Lords to Debut at Power-Con with Two Exclusives

The Four Horsemen have sold some test shots of their retro reboot line of Power Lords, but the first actual production figures will debut this weekend at Power-Con. There’ll be two Power Lords to pick up – regular and elite versions of the Power Soldiers.

The Glyos compatibility will add to the playability of this line – I’m sure folks with other Glyos figures will enjoy adding parts with human features and proportions.

Not going to Power-Con? Don’t fret – you’ll be able to pick these up at the Store Horsemen this upcoming Monday, the day after Power-Con has concluded.

You Must Check Out the First Issue of Philip Reed’s BattleGrip Magazine

BattleGrip Issue 1 - pg 22 - 23

If you’re not familiar with Philip Reed and his site, BattleGrip, you should check it out. When I started AFP, somehow Philip found the site, and he’s been a really great supporter from our early days – and he’s just that way in the collecting community – a terrific guy.

Earlier this year, Philip published a Kickstarter-funded book about 3rd-party Transformers called Transforming Collections. (There are a couple of copies of Transforming Collections available on Amazon.) I guess that massive effort kept him hooked on publishing, because his latest endeavor is a free downloadable magazine. I’m re-hosting BattleGrip – issue 1 here (click to download – 70MB) to help get the issue out there. If you’re an old-timer like me and miss the days when you could go to a magazine store to pick up one related to toys (or if you just want to know what that was like, in this increasingly online world), then you’ll love this.

A couple of tips – you’ll need Adobe Acrobat Reader or an alternative PDF reader, and the best way to read this magazine is to set it up in 2-page view (View -> Page Display -> Two Page View) and select the option to show the cover page on its own (View -> Page Display -> Show Cover Page in Two Page View). This will let you see some of the beautiful 2-page spreads, like the Predator Trophy Case above, in all their glory.

Great start to the magazine, Philip, and thanks for the link to my moot-fake-rant about the Club Infinite Earths Doomsday. Can’t wait for issue 2!

Soapbox Sunday: I’m KILLIN THE LIEN (One out of Three Subs Ain’t Bad)

Last Chance to Subscribe - Club Eternia, Club Infinite Earths, Ecto-1 KILLIN THE LIEN

Yes, I’m a procrastinator. I haven’t submitted my pre-order for the Mattycollector subscriptions. But when I do, I’ll be one of the guys KILLIN THE LIEN. When it comes to Club Eternia, Club Infinite Earths, and the Ecto-1 pre-orders, I’ll be saying no to Ghostbusters and Masters of the Universe Classics, and giving a hesitant yes to DC Universe Classics.

When I started thinking about this post earlier in the week, I was planning on something a little different. The gist was going to be, “I’ve subbed for Masters and DC (note: I always knew I was going to pass on the Ecto-1), and now it’s up to you” – I’d present my rationale for my decisions. I wouldn’t tell you to sub too (I hate that), but rather ask you to consider how the subs line up with what you want and to make up your own minds.

For the past couple of days, I started to really put that into practice for myself. As someone on the bandwagon since the subscriptions started, it was the de facto choice to keep subbing. So I was pretty surprised to come to the decision to stop subscribing to Club Eternia.

Mattycollector Club Eternia Doomsday Comparison

Matty Tracker 2014 - T-7-2DC fans, rejoice – Toy Guru does care about you!

Mattycollector has published a Youtube video comparing the different versions of Doomsday. In it, he’s got the tier 1 and tier 2 Doomsdays, namely the “containment suit” Doomsday and the “unleashed” Doomsday. For comparison, he’s also got the Collect and Connect Kilowog, with whom the Doomsdays share “upper bicep” (does he mean shoulders or biceps?) and “upper leg parts.” I don’t mean to quibble, but even if parts don’t share tooling, I’d imagine that the Four Horsemen are just building up from the blank Kilowog base, versus starting from scratch. I guess it probably doesn’t matter either way.

Toy Guru also has the DC Super Heroes Doomsday and a normal (vs New 52) DC Universe Classics Superman – both of whom are absolutely dwarfed by the two hopefuls. And yes, you will also hear about how if we don’t hit the subscription targets, they may not be able to make either Doomsday.
