Fantastic Exclusive Gothitropolis Scarabus Test Shots

This is some cool stuff. I’m glad the Four Horsemen have focused on making sure the joints are sturdy – since these sound like they’ll be pretty hefty, I hope they won’t be plagued by loose joints like the elephants were.

You’re getting a double dose of Scary-Shot today to be thankful for!

The first image is one that’s very similar to one you’ve seen before. It’s an image of one of the Scarabus test shots we got in at the studio recently. But there are a couple of things to take note of on this test shot. Most specifically, some of the articulation points.

Not only is every single joint solid, tight and durable feeling, but there are “clicky” detents in most of the joints adding to the figures stability, but most of the joints are better hidden by using an “insert molding” system! Most of the joints will have no visible outer rivet or peg to mess up the exquisite outer detail on Scarabus! The black discs that you see in the photos below have actually been created, and then inserted into the molds for the joints before injecting plastic into those molds, essentially trapping the discs in the joint during production and ensuring a perfect, tight fit.

Not only that, but the entire figure is made from a PVC material! No ABS (except for some accessories and clear parts)! Not only does this make the figure seem more solid and add a bit to it’s heft, but it also allows much more detail from the prototype to be kept in the finished figure with out having to worry as much about drafting and parting lines (a few terms in this paragraph will be in next weeks Four Horsemen Fridays: The FH Glossary).

We can’t wait for these to get into the hands of collectors who will actually play with them, if only to see if these joints loosen up any over time. We’ve been playing with him constantly since he kicked in our front door, and we’ve had no issues with him yet.

In the second photo you finally get confirmation that both the cape/shoulder-pads and the pincers on his back are removable. As well as his head, faceplate, hands and staff-tops. Everything you see in this image will come with every single Scarabus and all of the variants. Plus more! But that’ll have to wait for another Scary-Shot…

Happy Thanksgiving! AFP’s Thanksgiving Action Figure Picks

While the guys have many other things for which to be thankful, for our Thanksgiving post I asked them to share some thoughts on a figure or set of figures that come to mind. We’ll start with Sandman, who decided he would go big or go home.

My Thanksgiving action figure pick is the Big G himself, Hasbro’s Marvel Masterworks Galactus! Why am I thankful for getting this figure? Well, it is quite rare these days that we get a 19-inch, fully articulated, nicely sculpted, giant action figure like Galactus. Just look at the heights of the DC Universe Classics Collect and Connect figures and even Tytus of the Masters of the Universe Classics line, they don’t even come close to his height. His retail price of $50, in my opinion, is fairly reasonable. He looks great with my Marvel Legends AND  he looks even better with my Marvel Universe figures! I look forward to being thankful to Hasbro for some Sentinels next year and hopefully some nice lookin’ Marvel Legends in 2012!
