SDCC 2012: DC Collectibles Booth Pics

Yep, I’ve still got more pics from San Diego Comic-Con. Here’s some shots from the DC Collectibles portion of the DC Comics booth. One highlight was the diorama of the new Darkseid figure surrounded by the new 52 Justice League of America and an army of Parademons. I also shot the mini-diorama of the new 3.75-inch scaled Green Lantern figures.

SDCC 2012: DC Collectibles Reveals 3.75-Inch Kyle Rayner and Kilowog 2-Pack – New Scale to be Con Exclusive

DC Collectibles (formerly known as DC Direct) has revealed a Kyle Rayner and Kilowog 2-pack for San Diego Comic-Con in the 3.75-inch scale. It’s a curious choice, since DCD has always been firmly entrenched in the somewhat fluid 6 to 7-inch scale. Also curious is that this scale will be available only at conventions. I can only surmise that the DCD guys have felt the void in the scale that GI Joe and Star Wars have made pervasive, since Mattel shut down its underperforming effort with DC Infinite Heroes.

With a con-only line, though, Rayner and Kilowog will be lonely. The promise of the smaller scale is getting a whole mess of characters for your shelves, like we hoped for with DC Infinite Heroes and what we have been getting with Hasbro’s Marvel Universe line. If this set sells like gangbusters, I imagine that we’ll see this scale from DC Collectibles make its way to your local comic book stores and specialty retailers. Let’s put on our Blue Lantern rings and hope!

DC Universe Classics Cosmic Odyssey

Cosmic Odyssey - group.jpg

I’ve often joked that Mattel and the Four Horsemen created the DC Universe Classics line so they could make every character from the epic comic from Jim Starlin and Mike Mignola that is Cosmic Odyssey – but seeing all these figures together, spanning the entire life to-date of this toy line, you have to admit that I may be onto something. The very first wave of the line gave us Batman, Etrigan, and Orion. That’s THREE out of the five figures in the first wave, all from Cosmic Odyssey!

And in the very first year of the DC subscription, the club exclusive figure is Metron – the New God whose quest for knowledge about the Anti-Life equation serve as the catalyst for the events in Cosmic Odyssey. Admit it – you think I’m right!

DC Universe Classics Super Friends

Super Friends - group.jpg

I’ve been taking pictures of some of action figure groups I have on my shelves, but this collection of the heroes that appeared on the Hanna Barbera Super Friends cartoon isn’t one of them. No, it’s not that I have a disdain for the cartoon figures in action figure lines (more on that below) – it’s just that the bulk of the characters are part of a broader Justice League of America display on my shelves. There’s no doubt, however, that the cartoon heavily influenced the character and decos of the figures in DC Universe Classics, so as I prepare for some reorganization on my shelves, I wanted to capture this group.
