WonderCon 2011 – Booth Babes and Cosplay

Booth Babes and Cosplay (13) (1280x853).jpg

I love that WonderCon is a local show for me. Toy Fair is a trek, and even though San Diego is a short hour and a half flight away, it’s great not to have to deal with airports and hotels to soak in some pop culture and toys. But one thing that’s definitely changed in the past couple of years is how many people are showing up to WonderCon. It doesn’t have nearly the space or exhibitors compared to San Diego Comic-Con, but it’s starting to match SDCC in terms of people density. And a lot of those people show up in costume.

Hagop and I got to sit down with two of them at Mattel’s Collector Event at Toy Fair. It was really a treat talking to them, while surrounded by the 2-ups and prototypes of the action figures they’ve designed.

In our first part, we talk with Eric Treadaway, designer and sculptor, about Masters of the Universe Classics, DC Universe Classics, and fan reaction to some of the controversial reveals. We’ll post the second part, our conversation with Cornboy, on the Fwoosh next week.

I keep hearing about price increases at retail for Mattel DC figures, but here’s some good news – Green Lantern Classics Wave 1 has just turned up in stock at Amazon, and they’re holding steady at $14.99. And they qualify for free shipping if your order is $25 or more. With no sales tax in most locations, that’s a tough deal to beat.

Happy shopping!
