This guest review of the Iron Man 2 Concept Series Advanced Tactical Armor 3-Pack is from AFP reader Suri. Thanks very much for the review and pics!
Mere minutes before seeing Iron Man 2, I decided to drop into a K-Mart to look at some toys. K-Mart is not exactly my usual stop, but it was immediately next to the movie theater and I decided “Hey, why not?” At best, I was expecting some of the Hulkbuster wave of Iron Man 2 toys. I’ve heard rumors of spottings in California and Canada of this wave. At worst, I would settle for a Hypervelocity Iron Man or a Movie Mark I, neither of which I have picked up yet. What I didn’t expect, however, was this three-pack – mainly because I didn’t even know it existed.
This three-pack of the 3.75-inch Iron Man 2 Concept Series is simply something I did not know of. I had seen no press shots, heard no rumors and never seen them in stores. As it turns out, this is a K-Mart exclusive, as can be seen on their site (Iron Man 2 Concept Series: Advanced Tactical Armor). I stumbled upon it purely by luck and what immediately caught my eye was the Iron Patriot armor.
Toyfare #155 hits news stands tomorrow. A subscriber who got his issue early sent along the tidbit that Hasbro reveals a special exclusive for San Diego Comic-Con – a blister-carded version of the Masterworks Galactus that was teased at SDCC last year and revealed in its retail packaging at Toy Fair this year.
Like the other Marvel Universe exclusives for SDCC this year, the Galactus packaging will feature artwork by Joe Quesada, and will come in a case with handle to make lugging him around the show floor that much easier. I didn’t get the scoop if this version will include electronics, but I’m guessing it will. I also don’t know if it will include the Silver Surfer, but I’m guessing it will not.
And for those of you wondering if this means no retail release, my understanding is that Galactus will still find his way to retail as planned, featuring the Mike Deodato packaging shown above.
The Transformers Fan’s Choice Poll that Hasbro is running is *not* to select a character for an upcoming Transformer figure – they want you to vote on which of five nominated Transformers should join Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, and Starscream in the Transformers Hall of Fame’s inaugural class.
Your choices are Soundwave, Grimlock, Jazz, Shockwave, and Dinobot.
This is the fourth and final part of Akatsuki’s Marvel Legends Iron Man Retrospective, the finale to our Iron Mania week. Part 4 covers the Iron Man figures produced by Hasbro after they took over the Marvel Legends line. It includes the Ultimate Iron Man from HML Series 1 through the Stealth Iron Man from the ML 2-Packs.
Huge thanks to Akatsuki for putting together a great look at the Marvel Legends Iron Man figures!
