SDCC 2015: Yes, Hasbro Has G.I. JOE Exclusives Too!

SDCC 2015 Hasbro G.I. JOE Desert Duel and Crimson Strike Sets

Although they weren’t included in Hasbro’s official SDCC 2015 press releases this weekend, they did announce a couple of G.I. JOE sets at G.I. JOECon a couple of months ago. The Desert Duel set will be available through Entertainment Earth / Toys R Us at the show, while the Crimson Strike set will be at the regular spot at the HasbroToyShop booth. I’ll look for additional info on how these may be available online after the show.

Suffice to say, I’m not expecting much more in terms of new G.I. JOE announcements at the show, but we can keep our fingers crossed.

SDCC 2015: Hasbro Officially Reveals Star Wars, Marvel, and Transformers Exclusives

SDCC 2015 Hasbro Exclusive Special Edition Toys

With less than a month to go before the big show, Hasbro has finally unveiled their San Diego Comic-Con exclusives. Sure, we’d caught glimpses – Hasbro teased the Transformers Devastator on Facebook and shared the Marvel Legends Dr. Strange Book of Vishanti set with USA Today, and we got a sneak peek at the Star Wars First Order Stormtrooper on eBay.

But there’s more… all with official descriptions and prices from Hasbro, with high res photos to boot. Even if you’re not making it to San Diego, Hasbro will offer these exclusives after the show at HasbroToyShop.com. So get your wallets ready!

SDCC 2015: Star Wars Black Series Force Awakens Stormtrooper SDCC Exclusive?

Star Wars Black Series Evolution of StormtrooperA couple of weeks ago, we tweeted about what looked to be a Star Wars Black Series Stormtrooper from The Force Awakens on eBay. (Amazingly, that Stormtrooper auction closed at over $1,000!) We have continued to see auctions for these, like this one, but one in particular has given us new clues as to how the figure may eventually be sold – as a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive.

This auction for a “First Order Stormtrooper” is the first we’ve seen that includes pictures of packaging – and it looks too authentic to be a hoax. It’s different from anything we’ve seen from existing retail packaging for the Black Series, and the presence of a slip cover and auction details describing an included booklet (with photo labeled “Evolution of the Stormtrooper”) leads us to believe this will be a Star Wars exclusive for SDCC.

We’re overdue for SDCC details for Star Wars from Hasbro, but perhaps with conflict between hype and secrecy about The Force Awakens, there’s an embargo on any movie-related info. What do you think – is this legit?

Daredevil: That She May See – BillsComics.com

Bill is back with his latest action figure comic. In “That She May See,” Daredevil hopes to help someone with whom he can truly empathize – a little girl who has lost her eyesight in a car accident… and finds himself up against the likes of A.I.M., Batroc, and more! SDCC 2015 (and WebSwipe): Hasbro Reveals Exclusive Marvel Legends Dr. Strange Box Set – USAToday.com

Marvel Legends Dr. Strange SDCC 2015 exclusive box set

We’ve been anxiously awaiting news for Hasbro’s Marvel exclusive for San Diego Comic-Con, and USAToday.com broke the news – it’s a Marvel Legends box set built around Dr. Strange. With the Benedict Cumberbatch movie scheduled for November 2016, I’m guessing Marvel will do some teasers at their panel this year, but I wonder if this set may have been better suited for SDCC next year.

The packaging is a novel concept (no book-pun intended) – it’s in the form of Dr. Strange’s Book of the Vishanti. In the pages preceding the figures, the Book will feature artwork and profiles for the five figures included. We’ll get to them momentarily, but first wanted to highlight that included with the book is another prop – the mystical talisman, the Eye of Agamotto. With the Book of the Vishanti and the Eye of Agamotto in your possession, all you need to add is your own Cloak of Levitation, and you could be the next Sorcerer Supreme.

The figures themselves are a strange mix (also no pun intended.) The ones that make sense to me are Dr. Strange, in a translucent deco variant from the one that will ship with the Marvel Legends Hulkbuster wave; Brother Voodoo, who succeeded Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme; and Dormammu, Strange’s arch-enemy and ruler of the Dark Dimension. The inclusion of Hela and Magik (in her Marvel Now Darkchylde armor) seem tacked on. It may be lack of comic knowledge on my part, but I don’t know when Dr. Strange has had any significant interaction with the Goddess of Hel from Thor’s mythology or with the mutant sorceress and ruler of Limbo. While I’m not complaining to get either, I think the box set would have been stronger with Clea and Wong as supporting characters for Strange.

At $104.99, these sets are seeing a small price creep – the Thanos Imperative set from last year was $99.99
