Late Adopter? Might be Time to Jump on the Star Wars Black Series Bandwagon

I’ve been browsing looking for online deals today – pretty lazily, because with online shopping it’s not too hard to fill the gaps in the toy collection. But I did see some big price drops for wave 1 of the 6-inch Star Wars Black Series at Amazon. Now, I’ve already got the figures, but for those of you who have been holding off, now might be the time to get in. The figures are really great, and for $9.99 each, you can pretend you’re buying them a long time ago and far, far away – while the sting of George Lucas trashing your childhood with the prequels was still fresh!

The only exception, naturally, is the Sandtrooper – still a couple bucks off at $17.99, but people have been army building.

Thanksgiving Toy Run: Avengers S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier on Sale for $39.99 at ToysRUs.com

As a Rewards R Us member, I saw that the Marvel Universe SHIELD Helicarrier would be on sale in Toys R Us stores for Thanksgiving. Thankfully, I was spared having to write a diatribe about how TRU should stop treating its online customers different from its brick and mortar customers, because the Helicarrier is also on sale for $39.99 on the TRU.com website.

I won’t go so far as to call it the USS Flagg of the Marvel Universe generation, but I doubt we’ll ever see another vehicle this large from Hasbro’s Marvel team any time soon. At half off it’s a good deal, and you’ll only need to add $10 to your cart to trigger free shipping. You could also wait until TRU opens their doors at 5PM tonight to look for one in the stores – but does anyone want to go out shopping right after a big turkey meal? Isn’t Black Friday in the wee hours punishment enough? Happy Thanksgiving!

Border Patrol: Marvel Legends Beta Ray Bill, Nova Prime, and Wonder Man

Marvel Legends Beta Ray Bill Marvel Legends Nova Prime Marvel Legends Wonder Man

This week, I found some more custom Marvel Legends that I’d like to have in my collection.

  • Marvel Legends Beta Ray Bill by Leech Customs – whether you prefer the Marvel Select Thor or the newer Marvel Legends Thor, the problem is that your Beta Ray Bill from back in the Toy Biz days is now a bit undersized – I’ve been thinking for a while about transposing some parts onto a newer Wrecking Crew body, and now I can see it will work out just great – as an added bonus, Stormbreaker has been enhanced with a very nice handle that hangs the way it should, no matter what position the hammer is in – ends Nov 28, 2013 18:54:15 PST
  • Marvel Legends Nova Prime by Draubner – there’s some really nice sculpting work on the armor pieces added to this custom, and the paint work is nice too – comes with alternate unmasked head and a custom base – ends today, Nov 26, 2013 07:40:37 PST
  • Marvel Legends Wonder Man by Stevid Customs – there’s so many characters that would benefit from the new Hyperion body, and Stevid is working through them – this week he’s not only got Wonder Man, but also Luke Cage and Gladiator – ends Nov 27, 2013 18:09:37 PST

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!

Customizers, don’t forget to check out the submission guidelines for CustomCon 36. Submission deadline is this Friday, November 29 – contact me if you want to enter but need more time.

Weekend Toy Run: Marvel Legends Rocket Raccoon Wave at Target.com

Marvel Legends Rocket Raccoon Wave at Target

We’ve seen them go in and out of stock at Walmart.com this week, but this weekend, you’ve got another shot at the Marvel Legends Rocket Raccoon wave at Target.com. What’s great is that they’re priced at $14.99 – sure, Walmart had them for 2 pennies less, but they’re out of stock again there. No surprise, Jean Grey is sold out already, but that leaves the Wrecker, Hawkeye, Black Panther, and Scarlet Spider up for grabs at Target. No sign of Punisher or Blade.

You can get free shipping if you spend over $50, or if you have a Target REDcard (which also gives you 5% off). Happy shopping!

Too Good to be True – Walmart.com Shipping Marvel Legends Punisher Variants, Not Blade

Marvel Legends Blade (variant) Marvel Legends Punisher (Marvel Now variant)

Our pal Paul has gotten back to us, and unfortunately, Walmart.com is shipping out the Marvel Now! variant of the Punisher that has been shipping with cases of the Marvel Legends Rocket Raccoon wave. He had hoped that because the listing shows Blade as the main picure for the item (and oddly enough, the regular Punisher with the white skull as an alternate picture), and because the cost was a little more than the other figures in the wave, that they actually had Blade in stock.

For those of you who did order hoping for Blade, you will be able to return your variant Punishers (assuming you don’t want one for your Thunderbolts team) to your local Walmarts. Mike G – sorry we didn’t find this out before you put in your order. I know you’ve got 2 on the way – if by any chance you get a Blade, let us know!
