Hasbro (Return of) Marvel Legends Wave 3 Neo-Classic Armor Iron Man Quick Pic

Considering how successful the Iron Man and Avengers movies have been, I think Hasbro has shown a lot of restraint in Marvel Legends; it seems like Iron Man is showing up only every other wave – the Iron Man armor from the first Return of ML wave was the Extremis armor, and here in wave 3 it’s the Neo-Classic armor. While this figure is hurt a little by the slightly smaller-scaled sculpts that were originally due for release in the 6-inch Iron Man line, there’s still a lot of goodness with this figure.

The best thing for me is that Hasbro has figured out how to do the finish on Iron Man. The first of the resurgence of Hasbro’s Iron Man was the classic armor that came with the two-packs. Great candy apple red, but the yellow plastic was kind of dull. They fixed the gold on the Extremis armor from the start of this year, but it was the red that looked a little flat. With the Neo-Classic armor, both red and gold pop.

There’s no Iron Man planned for the first ML wave in 2013, but Hasbro’s saving it up for an Iron Man wave of Legends to get the boost from the Iron Man 3 movie. I can’t wait to see the comic book version of the Iron Monger.

Custom Marvel Legends Classic Mystique

In my Hasbro (Return of) Marvel Legends Wave 3 Mystique Quick Pics post I included some pics of my (very short on members) Freedom Force, and wondered what to do about the lack of a good classic version of Mystique. I also had a shot comparing Ibentmyman-thing’s custom Mystique head with the regular head – and as a stand-in I had placed the regular head on a female SHIELD agent that was handy. That got me thinking – white gloves and boots, and mostly blue body. A few days later, when I picked up the figures again, an even better set of fodder presented itself.

Putting together a classic Mystique is isn’t that hard. For customizers just starting out and wanting to try something more than simple part swapping, this would be a good project, and one that will fill a gap in your Marvel Legends collection.

Quick Pic – Hulk – the Wal-Mart Face-Off

Here’s a quick pic I took of the two best Hulks I have in my collection – the Wal-Mart exclusive Avengers Hulk and the Marvel Legends Face-Off Hulk. I wanted to frame their silhouettes with light, so I positioned my two LED book lights off to the back and sides of them, so that each light was lighting the back of one figure and the front of the other. I also wanted a little color on both figures instead of completely dark silhouettes, so I used my cheap DIY reflector to bounce just a little light onto them from in front and above them.

I think the Wal-Mart Hulk has got the most effective articulation of any of the Hulks I’ve gotten so far, but I still love the sculpt and texture of the Face-Off Hulk, and I don’t think there will ever be a Hulk that tops the Face-Off Hulk’s head sculpt. Which of these two is your favorite? And if there’s another Hulk that tops your list, who is it?

Hasbro (Return of) Marvel Legends Wave 3 Deadpool – Evolution of a Picture

I’ve probably mentioned one or two times that I’m a Deadpool fan. And while Daniel Way was writing Deadpool, there was no better Deadpool around than Rick Remender’s Deadpool in Uncanny X-Force. (I’m gonna have to check out the new Deadpool now that Way’s run is finally done.) In the first issue of Uncanny X-Force, there’s this scene where Deadpool is standing on top of the head of this huge statue spewing out a toxic green waterfall from its mouth.

Why did the nickel jump off the building but the dime didn’t? [Deadpool dives!] Dime had more cents.

That panel by Jerome Opena had such a dynamic look, that when I got the RoML 3 Deadpool (yay, X-Force colors!) I wanted to see if I could do it justice in a picture. I thought I hit it in the first shot… but I’ll show you how it evolved during the process to result in what you see above.
