Weekend Toy Run: The Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart Exclusively at LEGO Shop

LEGO Simpsons Kwik-E-Mart 71016

LEGO VIP members will have exclusive access to the new LEGO Kwik-E-Mart set until the end of April. While I don’t think it’s quite as inspired as the inaugural set, the LEGO Simpsons House, it’s still a highly visited location on the show. And of course, there’s the mini-figures – you’ll get Homer, Bart, and Marge again (if you have the Simpsons House), but then there’s Chief Wiggum, Snake, and Apu. Apu!

Now, if I were the LEGO brand manager for Simpsons, I’d make Springfield Elementary next. Who wouldn’t want minifigures of Groundskeeper Willie, Principal Skinner, Edna Krabappel, and Otto the bus driver – not to mention the students. Nelson Muntz? Haa haa!

If you’re not a LEGO VIP, it’s easy and free to sign up. As a VIP member, you’ll get loyalty points for every purchase at shop.lego.com and in LEGO retail stores, and access to special promotions like this one.

New Hot Toys and LEGO for Star Wars Celebration [Updated]

New Hot Toys and LEGO for Star Wars Celebration

Star Wars Celebration starts today, and while we can’t be there, we’ll do our best to follow the announcements. After all, with Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens coming this year, this promises to be one of the biggest Celebrations yet. All the collectibles companies will be there in force (awful pun intended).

Hot Toys even has a new Stormtrooper created exclusively for Star Wars Celebration. The Spacetrooper was featured in Episode IV – you’ll see them, with their special zero-gravity and rebreather gear, when the Millenium Falcon is dragged into the hangar of the Death Star (“That’s no moon…”) You can pre-order the Spacetrooper Sixth Scale Figure by Hot Toys at Sideshow Collectibles.

LEGO revealed large scale buildable figures at Toy Fair this year, and they’ll have four new figures joining the first two, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, at Star Wars Celebration. They’ve sent us pictures of Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous, and we’ll try to hunt down pics of Jango Fett and Commander Coby. These will be available at shop.lego.com and brick and mortar stores in September. [Update: LEGO has sent us pics of a new Tatooine mini-build set.]

Star Wars Movie Posters Recreated in LEGO

LEGO Star Wars - the Original Trilogy

With ample time to get us hyped up for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, Disney has made the entire Star Wars movie franchise available to stream or download. You can find all six Star Wars movies at Amazon, Google Play, and iTunes. So whatever ecosystem you’re committed to, the Force is strong in that one.

To celebrate Star Wars being online for the first time ever, LEGO has recreated the posters for each movie. Yes, even the prequels, Anakin and Padme haters! And as a bonus, LEGO has included a poster for their upcoming series on Disney XD. LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales will be retelling the movie saga from the perspectives of C-3P0 and R2-D2, in LEGO form, of course.

Toy Fair 2015: LEGO Minecraft and Scooby Doo

Toy Fair 2015 LEGO Scooby Doo (15 of 15)

To wrap up our LEGO posts this morning we’ll take a look at two of their licensed properties – Minecraft and Scooby Doo. While they’ve relinquished the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license, they’re continuing to go strong with licenses that may not have fit the traditional mold.

Ever since the CUUSOO Minecraft set, LEGO has sunk their teeth into the property. That relationship seems unchanged in the wake of Microsoft’s acquisition of the game. And in Scooby Doo, LEGO replaces the TMNT with another animated property, though one not as current. We’ll have to see if this is a relatively short-term prospect, like it was with the Turtles.

Toy Fair 2015: LEGO Movies – Star Wars and Jurassic Park

Toy Fair 2015 LEGO Jurassic Park (1 of 10)

In the second of our LEGO posts from this morning’s “Be our Toy Fair Valentine” LEGO party (I’m sure my wife is not appreciating that), here’s shots of two of the big movie properties – Star Wars and Jurassic Park.

It’s still early to expect sets from Episode 7 – the Star Wars stuff leverages the Original Trilogy, the Prequels, and the Rebels animated show. Jurassic Park, in contrast, reveals what we’re expecting to be the major action set pieces from the movie. The LEGO Movie still has sets coming out this year – I didn’t get any pics though.
