Iron Man 2 Comic Series Wave 2

AFP’s Iron Mania Week continues with a gargantuan guest review of Iron Man 2 Comic Series Wave 2 by Ash Talon. The 2nd wave of this line has just started hitting Toys R Us.

Iron Man is without a doubt my favorite comic book character. I own every issue of his several series going all the way back to Tales of Suspense #39. So when Hasbro announced a series of comic book-based action figures to run concurrently with the Iron Man 2 product, I was in heaven. It’s an idea that Hasbro mistakenly bypassed during the first Iron Man movie. But they’re learning, right?

The first wave of comic-based figures arrived in early March. Just this week, the second wave landed, and it’s just as stellar.

Announcing the AFP Iron Mania Week (and Giveaway!)

Iron Man 2 - Iron Monger and Crimson Dynamo.jpg

Chances are, if you’re a fan of AFP, then you’ve seen the Iron Man movie, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the title character. And you probably know that the sequel, Iron Man 2, Metallic Boogaloo (I made that up) is opening this upcoming Friday, May 7.

Because we’re such big fans of Iron Man, this week we’re celebrating Iron Mania – each day (we hope) we will have Iron Man toy-related content, all leading up to the premiere of Iron Man 2. Then, on premiered day, we’ll hold a Free Stuff drawing and give away this prize pack consisting of two Iron Man baddies, Iron Monger and Crimson Dynamo. Iron Monger is from the Movie Series and was the villain from the first movie. Crimson Dynamo is from the Comic Series and is a classic Iron Man villain.

To find out how to qualify to win the Iron Mania prize pack, check out our Free Stuff page. Good luck and enjoy AFP’s Iron Mania!

Marvel Universe Comic 2-Packs Series 3 Press Pics

MarvelousNews has images of the series of Marvel Universe 2-packs that will follow the Secret Wars series. While these are still mock-ups with Secret Wars comics packed in, the actual figures will come with Uncanny X-Men #175 (which features Dark Phoenix but is not actually part of the Dark Phoenix Saga) and Dark Avengers #1. I was hoping we would also get a regular Phoenix in her green costume out of this series, but so far no variant has been announced.

Shown below are some new carded images for Hasbro’s upcoming Comic Figure 2-packs. This 3rd wave for 2010 will be the first set of non-Secret Wars based figures. Instead we have one set based on the Dark Phoenix saga from the X-Men titles and one from the more recent Dark Avengers storyline. The sets include the following figures:

  • Daken & Venom (From the pages of Dark Avengers. Daken is disguised as Wolverine and Venom disguised as Spider-Man)
  • Cyclops & Dark Phoenix

Left on the Shelves: Hasbro Iron Man 2, Jazwares Sonic the Hedgehog, and Mattel The Dark Knight Harvey Dent

When I win the lottery, I’ll buy every action figure I want. For now, these ones were Left on the Shelves.

In this edition, more Hasbro Iron Man 2 figures, Jazwares Sonic the Hedgehog, and Mattel The Dark Knight Harvey Dent.

If you haven’t seen the lastest trailers and clips from Iron Man, you won’t understand why they call the Mark V armor the “suitcase armor” – and while it’s awesome on the big screen, I just couldn’t bring myself to buy another 3.75-inch Iron Man while I still have a pile of unopened Iron Men on the shelves at home.

Iron Starch and the Iron Man and War Machine versions of the Mighty Muggs were a little harder to resist, because cute and heavy armor are such a potent combination.
