Marvel Legends Iron Man 6-Inch Crimson Dynamo and Titanium Man Test Shots

I promised you a break from all the Mattel goodness that’s going on right now.  You may recall that a couple of weeks ago test shots for the 6-inch versions of Crimson Dynamo and Titanium Man were on auction on eBay.  Turns out that Fwoosher worldwar_hulk won a set of these test shots, and has sent along a huge number of pics.  You may notice a Marvel Legends 2-pack Iron Man in one of the group shots – you can see more of that gold Iron Man repaint in worldwar_hulk’s Fwoosh customs thread.

We first saw these figures as images as part of Hasbro’s Marvel presentation at Toy Fair last year,  and were crushed when Hasbro pulled them from their display booth prior to the start of San Diego Comic-Con last July.  I am hopeful that since these have had tools made, we’ll eventually get them on our shelves.

The Fwoosh Staff Best of 2009 – TheFwoosh.com

As you may know, I’m part of the crew at TheFwoosh.com, and at this time of the year we like to look at the past year’s best action figures.  In the Fwoosh Best Of, we usually get to pick just one figure, but this year, I got two, when Tenbones got hit with a data extraction job involving you taxpayer dollars at work on New Years Eve.  Poor guy!

My two picks were the Marvel Legends Iron Man (original review), which I had horse-traded to Tenbones, and the Marvel Mighty Muggs Logan (original review).  I’m pretty sure it’s not group think in action, but this year I could have picked almost any of the figures in The Fwoosh Staff Best of 2009.

Marvel Legends Iron Man

If the retail channel hadn’t been bogged down with the older, not quite as good Marvel Legends 2-packs, this may have been my pick for Best of ‘08. This classic Iron Man, sculpted by Gentle Giant, did eventually come out, and it was worth the wait.

The figure surpasses its predecessor from Marvel Legends Series 1 with its improved proportions, updated articulation, candy apple red paint job, and an interchangeable Tony Stark head that lets you pose him unmasked with his helmet held in his hand. It looks and moves like it’s channeling Bob Layton himself. Iron Man, and the rest of the figures in his assortment of 2-packs, makes me wonder how Marvel Legends would be doing if Hasbro had led with this level of quality.

Marvel Mighty Muggs Logan

Yeah, that’s right – Marvel Mighty Muggs Logan. You got a problem with that, bub? And no, this isn’t because I picked last and everyone had already picked the figures I would have picked. Let’s just say that some of the guys were whiny (you know who you are!) and I’m just a nice guy.

Not like Logan here. He’s mean through and through. He’s got the steely glint of a natural born killer in his eyes, and he’ll run you through with his adamantium claws faster than you can say “Jean Grey was a hoooooooer!” His hat is removable, and can be positioned sideways for the “I’m prospecting for gold in the Canadian Rockies” look, tilted down over his eyes for the “I’m napping here, quit buggin me Jubes” look, or just cocked a bit to the side for the “I will decapitate you for mentioning how cute I am” look.

He’s a killer who’s also cuddly and cute – and definitely the best Mighty Mugg that Hasbro has made to date.

Marvel Legends Icons Agency X – Custom Deadpool, Bob (Agent of Hydra), Taskmaster, and Agent X

Marvel Legends Icons Agency X - Taskmaster, Agent X, Bob (Agent of Hydra), and Deadpool

In the past couple of weeks I’ve posted customs that I entered in CustomCon 24.  First, I posted my Earth 2 Superman, Batman, Hawkman, and Robin customs, which were part of a group entry for the DC Universe Classics Justice Society of America.  Last week I posted Iron Fist, Steel Phoenix, and Shang Chi, three Marvel Legends customs which made up a solo entry called Marvel Legends Martial Arts Masters.

To wrap it up, here’s my write-up on four Marvel Legends Icons customs – Deadpool, Bob (Agent of Hydra), Taskmaster, and Agent X – whom I entered into CustomCon as Agency X.  For those of you paying attention, I submitted them under a pseudonym, Iron Molars, which is an anagram of my real name.  I did so in part so I could write up a gratuitous self-description, but also because I was just a little embarrassed that my three submissions were all on the last day.

Traditionally, CustomCon saves up for a big finale on the last day, but this wasn’t a case of me thinking my stuff deserved that.  Rather, it was because I was just so overloaded getting the rest of the days entries throughout the week prepped that I didn’t have time to get my own stuff finished.  I took these pictures the same day I put the final day of CustomCon up.

Marvel Universe Wave 6 – Warpath, Jean Grey, Sunfire, and Vision

Marvel Universe Wave 6 - Vision, Warpath, Jean Grey, and Sunfire

Marvel Universe Wave 6 is officially the first wave for 2010, but with sell-through on the Marvel Universe line strong, it’s been showing up at bricks and mortar retailers for several weeks now.  If this wave, I only picked up four of the six figures, passing on the House of M Spider-Man and the training uniform Wolverine.

Although I think the body they used for Spider-Man, originally from the black costumed Spidey, is superior to the one that’s been reused several times already for all the other Spideys, I just don’t need this variant.  And for Wolvie, I’ll wait for the running change on the head sculpt that should be a lot better than the initial head.

Here’s the packaging, featuring the new HAMMER and Norman Osborne themed artwork by Mike Deodato.
